Task Manager Error
I tried to access my task manager but got a "Bad Image" message instead (see below) that won't close, minimize or go away even after a restart. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista. C:\\Windows\system32\UTILDLL.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Thanks

Hello Jessica D, Thank you for using Microsoft Windows Vista Forums. Are you able to press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC key combo to access Task Manager or are you getting the same or even a different error? Try the following to see if this will allow you to access task manager: Go to START-->RUN and type REGEDIT. This will open the registry editor. Find the following registry key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\System] Look for the key "DisableTaskMgr" and double click on it. Set the value to 1 to disable Task Manager Set the value to 0 to enable Task Manager Please let me know if this helps or if you are still having any issues. dear supporters, CTRL+ALT+ESC key combo = taskmgr.exe - bad image no access to task manager what so ever :( i have done all you recommended. still my taskmgr.exe is giving "bad image" warning ("C:\\Windows\system32\UTILDLL.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.") i understand how to disable it, but task manager is a tool im working with all the time, and i cant live without it. im checking now with "Microsoft windows malicious software removal tool may 2009" just incase this whole thing is threat. also i got from sfc/scannow that i have corrupted files.... this VISTA windows i got, is genuine, and came with my Dell/XPS/M1530/.. so i dont realy understand this error. ("found corrupt files but couldnt fix them all") and when u buy laptop, u dont realy have installation cds to fix this error... please hel
Hi Saf_fari2000, Since you infromed that using the sfc /scannow has given the corrupted files which it was not able to fix, i will recommend you to repair your windows Vista using the disc that came with the PC.
