BSOD Ocurring randomly or sometimes when exiting a game
Hello i have recently built a new computer and i seem to have this recurring issue with windows randomly having BSOD's i have tried everything i could possibly think that could be an issue. I have done the following: Run Memtest x86 Uninstall MSI Afterburner (Though it was a possible cause) Removed Comodo Antivirus Installed and Removed Microsoft Security Essentials Phil Lockwood Ps. I listed this under devices and drivers as there is a mention of VISTA_DRIVER_FAULT and i dont know where i could place this question since i cannot find anything referring to crashes or bsod's.
Phil We could use the actual DMP file. Please upload it. This crash was related to memory corruption ( probably caused by a driver ). Please run this test to find which driver is causing the problem. If you are overclocking (pushing the components beyond their design) you should revert to default at least until the crashing is solved. If you don't know what it is you probably are not overclocking. Driver verifier ( for complete directions see our wiki here ) Co-Authored by JMH3143
I have run the driver verifier however i dont get and DMP Files and the BSOD is too quick to read any details, is there a way to force it to dump?
Viper Good luck and let us know if you need help.
Viper It is running then. We don't need to know which drivers just that there is a list. You may have to keep running verifier for up to 72 hours to get it to crash.
Viper Verifier was enabled but the the driver was not "caught" Just on a hunch can you run a system file check? Please run a system file check (SFC) All instructions are in our Wiki article below... Should you have any questions please ask us. System file check (SFC) Scan and Repair System Files
Just had a BSOD and i have included the DMP Debugged, The original file and the query from verifier. This BSOD Occured when i was trying to restart after playing Games and browsing, i hope ive included everything that is required. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-NY3dLv6DiWUHdpWldKam85SzA Loading Dump File [C:\Users\Phil\Desktop\020614-32651-01.dmp] Mini Kernel Dump File: Only registers and stack trace are available PeakPagedPoolUsageInBytes: 316 PeakNonPagedPoolUsageInBytes: 0
Here is the DMP File https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-NY3dLv6DiWZnNzSjRiREdVaEk And will look at the Driver Verifier, Thanks i will try this out and see if anything is out of place
I have no recent dumps available apart from the one i uploaded which was from a BSOD previous to the Verifier, I have run the verifier and now it occasionally BSOD's on startup, Also i did manage to get some information off the BSOD Since it didnt produce a DMP, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Cannot read the stop code due to a poor quality camera on my phone No driver name is mentioned Also here is the output of the query PeakPagedPoolUsageInBytes: 316 PeakNonPagedPoolUsageInBytes: 0
Okay i will try and get it to crash via games and cpu stress testing, i shall be back with the results hopefully, Thanks again
Viper The most recent DMP is still related to memory corruption and verifier was not enabled in that DMP. I suggest you change the set of drivers being verified to "all" and to double check it is running by typing verifier /query to see if a llist of drivers is displayed. If it does not display a list of drivers it isn't running

How do I restore sound to windows xp after fresh re-install? W
Missing streamci.dll. No audio device detected. Updated audio driver. Mr. Fix It says there are no problems. Windows XP SP3. Dell XPS 400
Hi AK-MW, Are you just facing problem with sound?, This file should be in your c:\windows\system32 folder and its for 8.00 KB (8,192 bytes). Alternate you can find and restore the file from C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\driver.cab If your file is present in the location check for environmental variables, it should have path: %SystemRoot%\system32 You can check environmental variables (Click on start -> settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced). Hope this helps.
cannot set time or date even in cmd
It seems to be connected to the unusuall settings I find in device manager as there are several system devices without drivers and that will not allow drivers to install, also there are over a dozen non-pnp devices in the hidden view running from unknown locations and some drivers appear as streamci.dll .

Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator - Cannot load the drivers - Code 31
I have an HP Media Center PC m1195c running Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP3. In Device Manager, all devices (including hidden devices) all indicate that they are working properly -- all except one: Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator . Its Device status says: " This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31) " Based on other postings in other forums, it appears that there is some connection between the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator driver problem and the fact that there is no audio device being detected, even though the Realtek audio device claims to be installed and working properly. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? Is there any way to fix the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator driver problem?
I have exactly the same problem with the same story on same windows. PC would not boot becose “Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM” So i entered rcovery console with win cd, did nothing there, rebooted and it started working. And now i have the same problem, Plug and Play gives me an error with same code and description and the "Sounds and Audio Devices" applet in Control Panel continues to insist that there is No Audio Device . It would be great if someone would come up with a solution.
I know I should be using a system better than Windows XP Professional by 2013, but I'm not and I'm getting this problem so is there a fix yet? I've tried all methods listed, I've tried to re-install the driver without the exclamation point or whatever and it hasn't helped... I'd appreciate if anyone could respond...
I have the same problem. I get "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)" for the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator I get There are no active mixer devices available....... when I open the volume control.
Hi Debleena, Thanks for replying. In answer to your first question about software or hardware changes: There were no hardware changes ; however, there were . I'm convinced that the root cause of this sound problem is due to the problem with the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator. Is there any reliable way of fixing that device driver problem?
Debleena, Did you get the reply I sent you on July 1st, with more detailed info about this problem? Even though my ultimate goal here is to get the sound problem fixed, my immediate concern is simply how to fix the problem with the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator driver. Do you have any suggestions as to how to fix the Code 31 error that I'm currently getting? None of the other recommendations I've seen (on this forum or any others) have worked. Any ideas you have would be greatly appreciated. Tom-T

You have winxp yet posted to a win7 group??? You need to reinstall / update your motherboard chipset drivers, either from your PC makers site if a big name PC or Laptop, if a generic desktop, from your motherboard maker. Your external problem *may* be cured by the chipset driver

both shift keys not working
i received a streamci.dll error earlier today. upon reboot, i discovered that my both shift keys were no longer working. since i have been experimenting.....here's what i've tried.... 1-i tried rebooting 2-i tried uninstalling and reinstalling keyboard driver 3-my computer is a convertible tablet also, and it has a virtual keyboard. the shift keys ARE functional on the virtual keyboard, which indicated to me that the computer itself is processing keyboard input correctly...that is assuming the virtual and real keyboard input to the same port. anyway, i'd really like to get this fixed but am not sure where to go from here. please help. 4-caps lock keys do work, but the only way i have access to special characters is through the virt. keyboad thanks, colin

Hi, a. Did you make any software/hardware changes on your computer, prior to this issue? I would suggest you to try the below methods, one by one, and check if this helps. Method 1: Try running Automated Troubleshooting Services and check what it has to say. http://support.microsoft.com/gp/hardware_device_problems Method 2: Check if the issue persists in safe mode and post back the same. This also might be because of some third party softwares. Refer: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-is-safe-mode http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode Method 3: Try some external keyboard and check if you are able to use Shift keys on it. My Sony VAIO E Series VPCEB46FG Laptop, Both Shift Keys stopped functioning. After doing lots of thing for 10 days I could get back both SHIFT Keys functioning. I removed the ONE "Back Cover Screw" which was pressing on the back of my "Left Shift Key". My problem is solved.
Hi, i tried everything you mentioned in your post, but i am still having the same problem, shift keys are not working at all, i also tried to the remap the shif keys though REGEDIT and Keytweak but even the remapped button did not perform. please help thanks khaldoun
hi there, since you were facing this issue in 2010 i wish that you got it solved, can you please share your experience. thanks
I read similar post in different forum and the same person revise the conclusion saying that the problem re-occur. Just in case, the problem is not hardware related I'll try to describe what happened to mine. Right after the release of Windows 10, I upgraded my Sony VAIO E series (SVE14122CV) despite the warning SONY gave in anticipation of some incompatibilities issues. Unfortunately, right after the upgrade both SHIFT keys stop working. I didn't go through many tweaks hoping that SONY would release the software and driver upgrades to accompany their VAIO Care program. No solution for my SHIFT keys. They're still somehow on a strike. Today I tried to run my Windows XP installed in VMWare. I booted it up and went straight to wordpad program and typed. The SHIFT keys are working just fine. I'm certain that this case is not hardware related. I went back to Windows 10 and tried to find features related to keyboard and planned to uninstall the keyboard to allow Windows to reinstall any dri
