Problems with W7 SP1 installation
Hi, I'm facing problems during the installation of SP1 on a (recently reinstalled) Windows 7 Home Premium x64 machine. While running the windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe, I receive the error messsage that the installation cannot continue due to essential system component(s) missing from the system. Below is an extract of the CBS.log I could find (I removed some of the info statements which mentioned which files are present in the SP1 update package). Errors I could locate are 2x RegQuery (ComponentsRemoved and UpdateDisableFlag), 1x SPCVerifyTrust (CryptCATAdminCalcHashFromFileHandle) and then the CSPInstall::CompatibilityApplicabilityScan:1244, but with no further details. 2014-08-13 20:26:01, Info CBS SPI: Deleting directory: C:\63c2b37214559bee1a1ef32d\46307257af0e6349b76515668ceae0. ret=2 Thanks frits

Posted too soon..... I just found a helpful link @ http://www.theexperienceblog.com/2009/03/12/installing-vista-sp2-gives-error-hr0x800f0a0c/ The installation medium I used was apparently a vLite customized installation, as I could find a key in the register at HKLM\SOFTWARE\vLite. After removing it, the SP1 installer is now running smoothly .... fingers crossed :-) Frits

I need to replace 2 VISTA system32 files (desk.cpl and spwizui.dll) but I cannot find a DL area of VISTA system files anywhere on the Internet.
Can anybody point me to VISTA system files for download? I need to replace DESK.CPL and SPWIZUI.DLL. Lots of hang-problems; I have difficulty going beyond desktop. sfc /scannow reveals the two files (and also the same ones in store) are corrupt. I do not have my computer CD with me. THANKS
You're welcome and thank you for the reply. Bill.
I plan to try your answer first, Rey, and copy from a friend's computer; but Bill's answer contained useful info and links, for the future. THANKS to you both! Pat
I suggest you copy them from a good working computer. How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833b
Hi, If System File Checker finds files it can not fix, you will need to do a Repair Upgrade Installation: If you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, you will need to borrow one: " How To Perform a Repair Installation For Vista" http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html And this may interest you, too. " How to Extract Files from the Vista Installation DVD" This will show you how to extract original files from the retail Vista installation DVD. You can then use these extracted files to replace missing or corrupted system files in your current Vista installation. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/261616-extract-files-vista-installation-dvd.html Cheers.
THANKS for the links, Bill!!! Pat
