Hi, 1. Is the issue specific to a disk? 2. Do you get any error message/code when the computer locks up? 3. What is the make and model of the computer? 4. Which application are you using to erase the contents from the disk? This issue may occur if the DVD/CD-ROM drivers are corrupted. I would suggest you to update the drivers for the DVD/CD-ROM drive from the device manager and check: Steps: a. Click on the Start button and then choose Control Panel. b. Click on the System and Security link. Note: If you're viewing the Large icons or Small icons view of Control Panel, you won't see this link. Simply click on Device Manager. c. In the System and Security window, click on the Device Manager link located under the System heading. d. Double click on DVD/CD-ROM drive. e. Right click on the drive listed and select Update Driver Software. f. Follow the on-screen instructions and restart the computer after the drivers are installed. Hope this resolves the issue. If the issue persists, you can
Can't install Hotfix 981194 (for SUA) on Windows 7 x64
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit with an AMD64 processor. I've installed Services for Unix (SUA), but I'm having a problem which I think is solved by the hotfix at KB 981194 . Part of that article says that the hotfix is "For all supported x64-based versions of Windows 7 and of Windows Server 2008 R2." I read at Wikipedia that "x64" is what Microsoft calls the non-Itanium 64-bit Intel and AMD processors. However, when I download the hotfix and try to run it, I get a dialog box with "The update is not applicable to your computer." But as you can see below, my file versions are at least in some cases less than what's listed in the article. Is the dialog box right? Have I just misread things? Or is something else wrong? Any help would be most appreciated. $ uname -a Interix capitol 6.1 10.0.7063.0 authenticamd AMD64_Family_16_Model_6_Stepping_3 $ fileinfo /dev/fs/C/Windows/system32/PSXSS.EXE 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255) /dev/fs/C/Windows/system32/PSXDLL.DLL
Never mind. I should have searched better. Hotfix 981194 was included with SP1. Apologies for the noise.
