BSOD - ntoskrnl.exe
I frequently receive BSOD while playing games in fullscreen with maximum settings. The cause for these crashes in bsod viewer is two different things. Some crashes just have the fault for it being ntoskrnl.exe. Others use dxgkrnl.sys , dxgmms1.sys, nvlddmkm.sys. One of the times it was even ntoskrnl.exe along with Unknown_Module_0000000000000. I had replies to something along the lines of this a few weeks ago but ntoskrnl.exe wasn't involved, it was just dxgkrnl.sys. I'm wondering if my problem has gotten worse and if this could possibly help someone to find the problem for me?
The GPU seemed to rise to almost 80C after playing for 2 hours. Should I definitely be worried?
The three most recent were Related to nvlddmkm.sys nVidia Display Driver. These are called BCC 116 and are usually related to heat (especially if a laptop), the driver, the video card, or power "It's not a true crash, in the sense that the Blue Screen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception". Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OS's like XP to crash. http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=lvrs64.sys http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=lvuvc64.sys

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible. You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking. If you are overclocking stop. (chances are if you dont know if you are, you are not) To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure: * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine. * Zip up the copy. * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button. *Please upload them to a file sharing service like Skydrive or"Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply. To ensure minidumps are enabled: * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter. * Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button. * Ensure that Auto
Yeah, seems as if my graphics card rises in temperature drastically when I play my game. I viewed a match for under 2 minutes and it rose from ~50c to around 65. I couldn't imagine if it were to go for hours on end which is what I typically do. I've had to replace the liquid cooling system for my computer once before for $200 around a year ago and this fixed the problem of my computer overheating and slowly dying out on me. It would be a shame if I had to replace the cooling for my graphics card, if I were to do this is it something I could do personally without prior experience to putting and taking apart computers or how would I go about that business?
B I have zero experience with replacing liquid cooling. I would blow out the case carefully and keep an eye on the temps.
B I would check with the mfr for max temp. 80C seems a bit high but if you arent crashing and the mfr says its ok I wouldnt be worried.
Fixing ntoskrnl.exe
Hello, I have been getting a number of BSOD recently. Having read all sorts of reports I have used BlueScreenView to look at the dump files. The majority of failures have been caused by ntosknl.exe. Hi Mick, You say you are running Windows 7 Vista - is it Windows7, Vista, or is it dual-boot with both systems installed. I'm going to assume it is Vista, but keep in mind that these procedures and programs may not work with Windows7 (in fact, they probably will be quite different) and that some of the suggested programs won't be compatible which could cause you further problems. If you are using Windows7, just ignore all this and repost in the Windows7 Forums at; http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windows7 where experts in Windows7 will be happy to assist you. Hi, The attached DMP files are of the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f) bugcheck, however they are 1x000009F and not 0x000009F so there is no blocked IRP address to get the driver which is causing the inconsistent power state. 1. Regards, Patrick
Need help repairing ntoskrnl.exe
I keep experiencing the BSOD and when I check the minidump it seems my problem is with the ntoskrnl.exe file. I have checked for how to repair everything I find mentions needing the original system disk. However, mine is a notebook computer and therefore has no disk drives, so obviously no disk. Can anyone help me repait ntoskrnl.exe?
Follow the directions given here. http://support.gateway.com/emachines/desktop/2009/gateway/dx/dx4300/DX4710faq6.shtml Recovery Manager should give you the option to Repair your computer or to Recover to factory defaults. You can always hit cancel to exit if necessary. Because it is Windows 7, you should be able to purchase ($20 USD) recovery media. There may be usb option http://us-store.emachines.com/rcd/ The above information came from these links. I clicked FAQ http://support.gateway.com/us/en/emachines/notebook/2009/emachines/em/em250/eM250nv.shtml
OK, so I finally got around to backing up all my data and tried to do a system restore. No can do... The system restore requires a reboot. However, EVERY time it tries to reboot it is interrupted by the BSOD and does not allow a proper reboot for recovery. It is this BSOD from **** that I am trying to eliminate and ironically does not allow for system restore. Any thoughts?
I have an E-Machines Netbook 250 The OS is Microsoft 7 Starter Edition Not sure what Recovery or Recovery Manager Options are, and so I cannot check to see if I have them. Obviously, as a Netbook, there is no disk drive and therefore no recovery disks. Any help would be appreciated, I encounter the BSOD often. Scott
Hi, Scott, What is your Computer Make/Model? WIndows OS? Do you have Recovery or Recovery Manager Options in All Programs You can repair your system using these tools http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode
Thank you for your help. The link you provided did not have an option for repair, only for recovering the entire OS. If I choose recovery, won't I lose certain programs I have downloaded or important data that I have?
If you recover to factory defaults, yes. You can perform a backup of your files but you will have to reinstall applications ccleaner, Photoshop, etc...when finished. Backup and Restore http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/backup-and-restore You might also consider moving your files to SkyDrive using this app. Drag and Drop files or folders and it will all be waiting for you on SkyDrive. Easy enough to drag back to WIndows when finished. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/skydrive/download-skydrive I've a dual boot configuration. I drag Windows 8 files to Skydrive. They show up in Windows Vista when I reboot to that OS.

What is showing up in Event Viewer > Application Log, System Log that coincides with BSOD You may have to reinstall Windows Zip up the minidump files as Auggy suggested and upload them to SkyDrive.
The problem is unlikely with the ntoskrnl.exe. It may help to look at the minidump files from the crashes with a debugger. Can you zip up the minidump files in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and make available (provide link) via Windows Live SkyDrive or similar site? The following link has information on using Windows Live SkyDrive: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/4fc10639-02db-4665-993a-08d865088d65 If you have problems zipping the minidump files copy the minidump files to another location such as a folder on the Desktop Also, you do not necessarily have to zip up the minidump files, you can upload them one at a time.

found it, it is the Pci Bus, whatever that is. I think it has to do with USB, but I'll search AMD for a driver
Okay, I'm back in normal mode windows 10 **kisses the ground** whew It continued to crash blue with this driver verification error amdkmpfd.sys several times. I was finally able to get into safe mode and disable verifier. However, it did not record the error in the dump folder: dmp folder Just a note, In Windows 10, in Safe mode, the start menu does not work. I had to navigate in Windows explorer to windows/system32 and find the cmd.exe so I could have a command prompt. I'm not sure how to deal with this amdkmpfd.sys but I'll try to find it in the control panel
I've done the driver verifier, Now it is blue screen to... (something like) driver_verification_detection_violation amdkmpfd.sys I cannot get back to windows 10, and I'm not sure how to restart in safe mode to disable the verifier. I'll keep trying and re post I'm using a different computer btw to post here
These crashes were related to memory corruption ( probably caused by a driver ). Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem. Please run verifier first. You do not need to run memtest yet unless verifier does not find the cause, or you want to. If you are over-clocking anything reset to default before running these tests. In other words STOP!!! If you do not know what this means you probably are not 1-Driver verifier ( for complete directions see our wiki here ) 2-Memtest. ( You can read more about running memtest here )
You may have the latest driver but it may be corrupt. You need to remove it and install a fresh copy as I suggested previously
AMD auto detect says I already have the latest drivers. But I'm getting a bad case of the mush brain and getting lost in the technical wonderworld that flies way over my head.
I got another bluescreen this morning, APC_INDEX_MISMATCH here are the dmp and msinfo https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=ADFA2ED72A5765F0!385&authkey=!AEL28WbhfIraQac&ithint=folder%2c link to files I also downloaded the Blend for Visual Studio 2015 and installed so I can view the dmp files and it says it does not open older dmp files. I just do not have any more funds to put into repairing this problem. I also can't seem to gain permission to even do anything with the file.
sorry, here you go... https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=ADFA2ED72A5765F0!382&authkey=!AFAgNYxCYO8zx44&ithint=folder%2c I still like my idea of a sledgehammer and the neanderthal method. This is my first time with One Drive, please let me know if it works.
I found something... well maybe In the Device Manager under Display adapters, AMD Radeon HD 8450G, there is a folder called "amdkmpfd" but no files with the " .sys " I'm about half afraid to attempt to update drivers as I don't have much experience doing so, especially being a video driver. But I'll try to find an AMD website and poke around.
NTOSKRNL.EXE
I am running Windows 10. I was getting frequent (every 3-5 hours) critical errors ("error 41 (63) kernel power"). After a number of attempts to fix the problem, I decided to "reset" Windows, so I got a brand new installation. Once the installation was completed, I decided to test all the drivers using VERIFIER before I do anything else. TO make the long story short, I narrowed the problem down to NTOSKRNL.EXE. In short, while I have Verifier on (using only NTOSKRNL.EXE as the driver to be tested) my computer fails to boot with a BSOD. All the other drivers test OK. Question: Is there a direct way to get a replacement driver for the NTOSKRNL.EXE? Thanks for any help.
I am attaching 3 very recent Minidump files and system specs from Speccy. Before I got these BSOD's I checked and updated all 3rd party drivers. Hope you can help. Here is the link: https://onedrive.live.com/?id=FB457EA854F3E2B7%211572&cid=FB457EA854F3E2B7 Thanks

After I got the latest BSOD, I run driver verifier on iastora.sys. The verifier did not report any issue and the system booted normally. I see the windbg suspects iastora.sys, but there must be something else going on. May be better luck this time? Thanks again.
Hi, The replacement of the Intel Raid driver with the MS SATA AHCI driver seems to have worked! So far at least, which is a lot longer without a BSOD than before (a whole 3 days without a BSOD, oh my!). I traced the issue to the replacement of the MS driver with the Intel driver by my driver-minding program, as it thought the MS driver was "ancient" (circa 2006) and proceeded to replace it. It would appear that, as Patrick Barker suggested, the Intel Raid driver and Windows 10 do not get along, at least not on my computer. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Regards
NTOSKRNL.EXE, a system executable, is unlikely to be malfunctioning . Something else, like a third party driver is most likely the issue. Please post a link to the dump file/s. NTOSKRNL.EXE BSOD
Hello, I bought an Alienware M14x computer in July, and in August I started running into Blue Screen errors with the problem DRIVER POWER STATE ERROR. I have tried multiple things to fix this problem such as updating drivers and calling tech support but, nothing has worked. Any ideas?
The minidump files showed DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f) stop errors which appear to be caused by the nvlddmkm.sys: BugCheck 9F, {3, fffffa80082e3a10, fffff80000b9c3d8, fffffa8009c6be10} Unable to load image nvlddmkm.sys, Win32 error 0n2 *** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for nvlddmkm.sys *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for nvlddmkm.sys Probably caused by : ACPI.sys You could try uninstalling and reinstalling the NVIDIA display adapter driver using the latest WHQL certified driver available from Dell for the laptop. This issue has been reported by other Alienware M series laptops before and there is a link to Dell support with some other suggestions in the following link: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/blue-screen-driver-power-state-failure/b646a7ec-2ff5-46f9-9012-483abc796a08?page=27
You're welcome.
OK, good luck! Thanks for the follow-up.
actually thanks for the advice it totally works now thanks!
I looked into it and my video card is not working so i am sending it in to get repairs

BSOD - ntoskrnl.exe
Hi, Really hoping someone can help with these crashes, they started happening on Win7 so I decided to upgrade and format my system in an attempt to fix any problems (and used Win8 :)), however the BSODs have followed me. I've updated my Graphics drivers as I thought this might have been causing it at first I'm not an expert when it comes to all this, I've checked with BluescreenView and the only thing on each on is ntoskrnl.exe, the codes are all different: BAD_POOL_HEADER MEMORY_MANAGEMENT IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL I've run MemTest, no issues found... please help. Here's links to all my DMP files on SkyDrive, let me know if you need any more info http://sdrv.ms/159fzuJ http://sdrv.ms/159fvuU http://sdrv.ms/159fAid http://sdrv.ms/159fBT7 http://sdrv.ms/159fEP0 Thanks in advance
Hello Chris, I would suggest you to run Driver Verifier to diagnose the exact issue with the drivers. Refer to the link “ Driver Verifier in Windows 8 ” to know how to run the driver verifier. Try this and reply with more information to diagnose and provide you better solution.
BSOD - ntoskrnl.exe
Hello all, over the last months I encountered BSODs on a regular basis. My laptop is a Dell XPS 15 9560 (Core i7-7700HQ, 32GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro Build 17134). Using BlueScreenView I got the impression that all the minidumps point to ntoskrnl.exe and hal.dll in some way. What I did until now: --> Checking for the latest updates in Windows --> Checking for driver issues using the Dell-Updater tool --> Running hardware checks using the Dell Diagnostics tool --> Running memtest a couple of times --> Checking for a corrupt file system (as described here: https://support.microsoft.com/de-de/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system) --> Reinstalling Windows But nothings seems to point out anything suspicious. Still the BSOD remain. So I tried to analyze the minidumps using Windbg. But I have problems to get Windbg running, because the symbol files are not loaded correctly. Please find the links to two dump files I've taken today. --> https://1drv.ms/

Hi, Since your computer is not booting to Windows, we can perform a Startup Repair by interrupting the boot process. To do so, follow the steps below: 1. Turn on your computer. As soon as you see the white circulating dots, immediately press and hold the power button until the computer shuts off. 2. Do this twice. On the third time, the system will show you the Windows Recovery Environment screen . 3. In the Windows Recovery Environment , click Troubleshoot . 4. Once done, click Advanced Options and then click Startup Repair . Note: Sometimes, it may take running a Startup Repair up to three separate times, restarting the computer after each time before it fully fixes the startup concern. Let us know how it goes.
I posted my question there, but it where deleted the same day. do you know why? https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/84831507-b166-4869-915e-4293573215a3/ntoskrnlexe-error-with-amd-products?forum=wdk

ntoskrnl.exe crashes
Hi my computer has gone through a series of crashes that have been monthly. I recently checked the bug out by using who crashed and found that most of the crashes were ntoskrnl.exe here are the error dump files: On Thu 4/4/2013 11:11:34 PM GMT your computer crashed crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\memory.dmp This was probably caused by the following module: Bug check description: The kernel has detected the corruption of a critical data structure. The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

99 times out of 100 it is a driver for which you need to run driver verifier
This was related to the NFC_Driver.sys may be a component of ASUS Gamer First III program so try updating or, if necessary, uninstall ASUS Gamer First III.
Thank you ZigZag. Im running MemTest now. Hopefully I don't have to buy new RAM because of some unknown driver, I guess I'll find out tomarrow. I'll keep you posted, and I turned off xmp profile before I started the test just to make sure. Running it overnight. From, Alex

Ran memtest for 12 hours+ on each stick no errors found. Another BSOD same reason, BIOS defaulted RAM to stock speed of 1333mhz on reboot. I've now upped the voltage to 1.6V to see if that makes it stable.
When the BSODs implicate care Windows system files like yours showing ntoskrnl.exe: That is hardly ever the real cause (don't look there)... it is always something else which is why the crash dump files need to be analyzed by someone who has the Windows Debugging Tools installed. Often more than one crash dump is needed to look for a pattern of failure so if you have more crash dumps you need to upload them too so we can look for a pattern of failure (or you could just guess). You should also see if there is any particular thing you can do that can cause the crash to occur. Can you recreate the crash at will? That way if you do make an adjustment you can test the failure condition to see if the problem is resolved. The file Azureus.exe stands out in this crash dump (a BitTorrent downloader) so is that something that has been added to your system lately or can you recreate a BSOD while using any Vuze products?
I would uninstall daemontools, this maybe causing it. And it's a known cause of crashes Then run this to remove stpd.sys Avast can also cause this stop error. ntoskrnl.exe maybe causing the crash but something else is making it crash I would also update these drivers nusb3hub.sys theyre 5-6 yrs old. The NEC 3.0 USB drivers
I now know what caused the BSOD. I happened to check CPU-Z post BSOD and it showed my RAM had defaulted to a lower speed, 1333mhz. Down from 1866mhz. I went into BIOS and it gave me a 'overclocking unstable' error message. It was the RAM setting that caused the BSOD. I have this RAM installed: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/corsair-vengeance-pro-red-16gb-2x8gb-ddr3-pc3-17100c11-2133mhz-dual-channel-memory-kit-cmy16gx3m2-my-383-cs.html I've had a problem with this RAM already in that, BIOS doesn't display the XMP profile for 2133mhz for it only 1866mhz. Contacting Corsair they advised me that it's likely just that the memory controller won't support 2133mhz. Fine I thought, I'll keep it at XMP profile 1 - 1866mhz. Then I get the BSOD. I will now remove 1 stick and run memtest all day at least 12 hours. Then repeat for the 2nd stick and see what happens. I've also disabled XMP profile 1 and set it to auto and just manually adjusted the speed to 1866mhz and will see what happens. Thank yo

Hi, I've been battling with crashes and bluescreens for a long time now, so my last hope is to find some help on this forum. The crashes started as random freezes with no information on what is the problem. So recently I've gotten more of these BSOD's (SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION, IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL, K ERNEL SECURITY CHECK FAILURE, etc. ) almost all mentioning ntoskrnl.exe. Everything I read told me to update drivers etc, but even reseting Windows didn't help. I've also swapped out my gpu before, but that didn't help either. Hi, Sorry to see that your last thread went unanswered by me, it must have gotten lost in my subscriptions! We still have the same bug check - SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b) . Regards, Patrick
Im very busy with work when I get memtest done I will get back to you! Thank you
No blue Screens in 48 hours , although I did have a random crash/freeze my screen looked like static. So where should I go from here.
No BSOD after enabling verifier and restarting. So what is the likely hardware culprit?
Please download and run Driver View and upload a copy of the report it produces to your Sky Drive. To get a report on all drivers select Edit, Select All followed by File, Save Selected Items. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload to your Sky Drive, share with everyone and post a link here. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode. The request for a copy of this file is additional to answering the question about make and model. For help with Sky Drive see paragraph
Ok update , Ran memtest 3.8 hours 4 passes Zero Errors. I still have driver verifier on should I turn it off or will it do no harm? Here is an image I found that looks similar to what my some of my random crashes have been. odd static on the screen. Sometimes I just get a black screen and I need to reboot. http://i43.tinypic.com/r7mb61.jpg I ran Furmark stress test on my gpu for 15 minutes with no crashes and no odd heating problems. I can only think my issue is hardware related, either HDD , CPU or GPU. Where should I go from here?
4 passes =/= 8. Please run for 8 as I advised. Go ahead and turn off verifier. Is a BIOS update available? Regards, Patrick
Not a problem. Regards, Patrick
Disable verifier and run Memtest, please. Regards, Patrick
Keep verifier enabled for at least 48 hrs. If you don't crash, hardware is likely the issue, yes. At that point, we're going to want to go ahead and run a Memtest for NO LESS than ~8 passes (several hours): Memtest86+: Download Memtest86+ here: http://www.memtest.org/ Which should I download? You can either download the pre-compiled ISO that you would burn to a CD and then boot from the CD, or you can download the auto-installer for the USB key. What this will do is format your USB drive, make it a bootable device, and then install the necessary files. Both do the same job, it's just up to you which you choose, or which you have available (whether it's CD or USB). How Memtest works: Memtest86 writes a series of test patterns to most memory addresses, reads back the data written, and compares it for errors. The default pass does 9 different tests, varying in access patterns and test data. A tenth test, bit fade, is selectable from the menu. It writes all memory with zeroes, then sleeps

I am receiving this blue screen of death error and it keeps pointing to the kernals driver - ntoskrnl.exe. I was thinking this happened a while back when i installed AMD video card beta driver. Of course i uninstalled it and went back to the non-beta version. I only get this error when i try to install a program like AVG it wont complete the installation and when i reboot i get the bsod. I also noticed if i try to install a game on steam and it needs direct x it takes for forever to install like over 4 hours. Another Example i have fallout 3 on disk and i tried to install it it. It takes a few hours and then says that the microsoft visual c+ 2005 states that the installer is no longer responding. Any help would be appreciated. System info. Perhaps it's a compatibility issue with the AMD Raedon GPUs? Apparently computers running Windows 10 that had AMD Raedon cards were having issues with crashing on Microsoft Edge. Based on that, I'm guessing there could be other issues too relating to GPUs by AMD. That's only a guess, and even if it's correct, I don't have a solution. :l Hopefully you will get it fixed soon!
Correct. I am hoping that the driver is just corrupt and replacing it will fix the situation. If the new copy does the same thing then we have to start testing the hardware.
Here are my files and i appreciate the assistance. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=18D250EF13A1D47B!1146&authkey=!AKjvDYmzaSpgc3U&ithint=folder%2ctxt
Happy to help Driver verified and related to your ATI video driver Completely remove the current driver and install the newest driver available. For instructions on how to do that Read all about updating drivers by my partner JMH3143 here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_other-hardware/updating-a-driver/a5e6345e-af9b-4099-bef0-8d22254aa1c1?tm=1436753520149
And to be clear. You want me to install the latest non-beta driver from amd correct? I know the beta driver are still in the testing phase and not signed yet.
It appears you may have been correct that i was having a video card driver issue. However the latest driver for amd i was still having this issue. I dont know where this all went wrong. but it appears for me the resolution was to update to the latest windows 10 build 1511. & also AMD release there new radeon crimson drivers. I havent had a blue screen since. (uninstalled programs gaming. No issues) And also what i discovered is that when i uninstalled the old amd drivers it was also causing an issue with windows updates. (i could not install any) but all is working now. Hopefully this done and resolved. I am happy at this point. Also the windows 10 update kept all my settings intact. Thank you for all your assistance it was greatly appreciated & needed.
I did a clean install on the driver. I let you know things go.
ntoskrnl.exe DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
My Alienware Windows 8.1 Laptop has been crashing a lot recently. After installing and running BlueScreenView it showed that the crashes were caused by ntoskrnl.exe with the Bug Check String of 'DRIVER_POWER_STATE_ERROR'. Sometimes I will get the BSOD while other times windows will immediately go to the green 'Shutting Down' Screen. Thank you.
Update Intel graphics driver to version10.18.14.425: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER03226019M/1/Video_Driver_FJJXT_WN32_10.18.14.4251_A04.EXE Installation 1. Browse to the location where you downloaded the file and double-click the new file. 2. Read over the release information presented in the dialog window. 11. Go to "Exit" > Exit Save Changes and reboot system As a precaution you should back up your data files to external media before updating the BIOS.

ntoskrnl.exe BSOD
After fixing my BSOD with USBPORT.sys i got a new common one..... ntoskrnl.exe with sometimes others but just mostly ntoskrnl.exe I like to know what is causing the problem that way i can get a replacement/fix the software/hardware that's causing this. Here are the Dmp files. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=3BAE65D8D7E4C88A%21109 Any help is appreciated
These crashes were related to memory corruption ( probably caused by a driver ). Please run these tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem. If you are overclocking (pushing the components beyond their design) you should revert to default at least until the crashing is solved. If you don't know what it is you probably are not overclocking. Since it is more likely to be a driver please run verifier first. 1-Driver verifier ( for complete directions see our wiki here ) If verifier does not find the issue we can move on to this. 2-Memtest. ( You can read more about running memtest here ) If you cannot boot after enabling verifier reboot into safe mode In Vista & win & (F8) In win 8 http://www.howtogeek.com/107511/how-to-boot-into-safe-mode-on-windows-8-the-easy-way/ Co-Authored by JMH3143 .

Okay, I'll notify you when it crashes. Thanks for the fast reply
Hi, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a) This indicates that Microsoft Windows or a kernel-mode driver accessed paged memory at DISPATCH_LEVEL or above. This bug check is issued if paged memory (or invalid memory) is accessed when the IRQL is too high. The error that generates this bug check usually occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS. Please enable Driver Verifier so we can see if a 3rd party driver is causing corruption: Regards, Patrick
BSOD - ntoskrnl.exe
Hi! Since upgrading to Windows 10 last year, I've been getting BSOD errors every week. During this time I've changed SDDs and RAM, but the errors keep popping up: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL MEMORY_MANAGEMENT PFN_LIST_CORRUPT All caused by driver ntoskrnl.exe. I've updated BIOS, reset its settings to default (no OC). I've tried updating every device driver available and I've checked the cable connections but nothing seems to work. Please help! Driver verified and crashes relate to ELDOS CallbackDisk Virtual Storage Driver uninstalling/Reinstalling the related program should resolve your issue.
Some DVD writer program? Did you check Programs and features to see if that was listed?
No drivers were named in the crashes, so our next step would be to find the offending driver if any. Enable Driver Verifier: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki... Upload the newer dumps when you get Driver_Verifier_detected_voilation. Please note that the system might crash before you reach the desktop-if it does please let us know so that we can guide you to disable Verifier.
Made a system restore point, enabled driver verifier, started crashing on boot. Created a installation USB and restored the restore point. Here is the dump: http://www.mediafire.com/file/el1ka775w5gebjp/030318-97609-01.dmp
I mean, I was able to figure out that much. Not sure what program is using that though. Possibly VCD.

Looking for some help in diagnosing this issue I've been having for the past few days. If someone could take a look at these bluescreen dumps and point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. https://mega.nz/#F!5nhVhajI!4yiZrwNjPD_AsT33FM0Z-A 2 crashes happened while playing a game, and one (the most recent) happened while watching a youtube video.

Just uninstalled Win10pcap
You're welcome, and good luck!
Just removed it; thanks for taking a look.
One of the minidump files pointed to the vbaudio_cable64_win7.sys which appears to be a driver for VB Audio VoiceMeeter so try temporarily uninstalling VB Audio VoiceMeeter.

DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE ntoskrnl.exe
I have been receiving the BSOD upon sleep and occasionally upon shutdown. BlueScreenView indicates that the problem is with ntoskrnl.exe, but I've read that this is a rather vague diagnosis. I've zipped the most recent .dmp files as well as the MSinfo32 output here . I've checked my hard drive for errors (none detected) and run DriverMax (all drivers supposedly up to date). Any help would be greatly appreciated - this is driving me a little crazy. Thanks in advance! Patrick
Thank you for your assistance. Here is the dump file you requested. Please let me know if any additional information would be useful. I look forward to your feedback. Regards, Patrick

Thank you so much! This has been driving me crazy. Based on your feedback, I Googled potential conflicts between Cisco and Norton. I found a Cisco support case that detailed the problem - an issue with the version of AnyConnect I have been using. After uninstalling AnyConnect, my computer is back to sleeping and restarting without any crashes. Thanks so much again, Patrick
Hi Patrick, All of the attached DMP files are of the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f) bug check. This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state. By default, this bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state. However, because the 1st parameter = 0x4, this implies that a power IRP has failed to synchronize with the PnP Manager. We're going to need to enable Kernel-Dump generation, as we cannot run the needed extensions with a minidump as there's not enough information saved at the time of the crash - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff540128%28v=vs.85%29.aspx Kernel-Dumps are located at C:\Windows and named MEMORY.DMP. ----------------- Also, do not ever install drivers from 3rd party crapware such as DriverMax. 3rd party driver installer tools although claim to install latest drivers, install nroken, buggy, outdated, improper drivers. ALWAYS get your drivers directly from the manufacturers
My pleasure, great to hear and good work! If and when you are comfortable and feel your issue has been solved, I'd recommend marking any posts of mine that answered your question as answered so this thread no longer shows up as requiring an answer. Regards, Patrick

Hi, As you are removing your previous anti virus because it was flagged as the culprit, we don't want you sitting without an anti virus even temporarily, so we recommend a replacement which is Microsoft Security Essentials. You could choose to not install an anti virus at all for a replacement if you wish, however, it is not recommended to run without one. Regards, Patrick
Why need to install MSE?
Hi, In order to assist you, we will need the DMP files to analyze what exactly occurred at the time of the crash, etc. If you don't know where DMP files are located, here's how to get to them: Navigate to the Windows\Minidump folder. Copy any and all DMP files in the Minidump folder to your Desktop and then zip up these files. Upload the zip containing the DMP files to Skydrive or a hosting site of your choice and paste in your reply. If you are going to use Skydrive but don't know how to upload to it, please visit the following: http://www.wikihow.com/Use-SkyDrive Please note that any "cleaner" programs such as TuneUp Utilities, CCleaner, etc, by default will delete DMP files upon use due to them taking up space. If your computer is not generating DMP files, please do the following: 1. Start > type %systemroot% which should show the Windows folder, click on it. Once inside that folder, ensure there is a Minidump folder created. If not, CTRL-SHIFT-N to make a New Folder and name it Min

ntoskrnl.exe+196722
I have three blue screens in a month that report in BlueScreenView that ntoskrnl.exe+196722 is the address where the blue screen occurs. I'm running a DELL XPS 2720 all-in-one with Windows 8 Pro. I'm fairly sure that the NT kernel isn't the one actually causing the crash :) but don't know where to go from here to trouble shoot the problem. The last blue screen reported BugCheck Code 159, kernel-power event id 41 with SleepInProgress 4. Unsure where to proceed from here, any suggestions?
Hi Mark, The file is ntoskrnl.exe , and it's a core operating system file. If it's corrupt or missing you get this error . tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost. Please reply with the status of the issue, so that we could help you better.
I did load the WinDbg utility from Microsoft and ran it on both the mini-dump file and the memory.dmp file. It determined that the problem was with Intel’s iastora_image_pci.sys file. I ran SFC /scannow, as recommended by another thread, and it did repair a problem it found. I have verified that the version of Intel Rapid Storage Technology that what I am running is the currently supported version from DELL. To answer your questions: The computer was, as best as I can determine it, asleep when this occurred. At least it had been unattended overnight, so that is my assumption since it’s power setting is set to sleep after a couple of hours. However, it also has hibernate turned on, and could have been in a hibernate state instead. But it was definitely in a logged out state and unattended. No changes were made at least several days prior to this occurring. I ran SFC /scannow again and it found no errors for it to fix. I ran scandisk and it found no errors. So I’m just waiting for it to
NTOSKRNL.EXE BSOD
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and have been for nearly 18 months. All of a sudden, about 2 weeks ago, I started getting BSOD error 109 in NTOSKRNL.EXE. Trying to see what might have changed. I noticed that a driver AVGTPX64.SYS has a date of May 7th, which is about a week before I started to see these problems. If I just reboot my system and not even log in, the system will crash within 45 minutes, and will continue to do so. Any thoughts?
OK. I removed most of the drivers you recommended. The files in the Skydrive reflect dump files after I made the changes. Here is the link to the Skydrive: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=9259E56106809E57&id=9259E56106809E57%21105 My only concern is uninstalling and reinstalling RtWlan.exe. If I uninstall it, will it automatically get re-installed? I'm afraid if I uninstall it, I won't have internet access any longer. Please advise. Thanks for your help.

Please upload and share with everyone copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your Sky Drive and post a link here. To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window select Windows Logs and System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log.
There are more then 57,000 system events and over 40000 Application Events. I was only able to upload 256 events, so I took the most recent events (system crashed while saving them the first time). I also uploaded the most recent minidump file from the most recent crash. As an aside, when I started my computer, I didn't start up any applications to begin with...only the event viewer when I got the most recent crash. Hopefully someone will see something that makes sense. Thanks for your help. Here is the link to the information: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=9259E56106809E57&id=9259E56106809E57%21105
David You need to upload your dump files not a text file summarising a dump file. Please download and run Driver View and upload a copy of the report it produces to your Sky Drive. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html Uninstall and reinstall RtWlan.exe. This is a realtek utility, which you most likely find in Programs and Features. Select Start, Control Panel and Programs and Features. ROOT\NET\0001 This device is disabled.
Please post a copy of your dumpfile as shared file to your Sky Drive with a link here. The dumpfile will be created at c:\windows\minidump. You may need to change your settings in Windows to be able to see the file. To show hidden files type Folder Options in the search box above the Start button and select View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked. What is your computer make and model? If not a branded computer what is your motherboard make and model? Please download and run Driver View and upload a copy of the report it produces to your Sky Drive. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press
Thanks for the information. I installed all of the updates, rebooted my system, and it still crashed within about 45 minutes. I'm not sure if it just a coincidence, but it seems if I turn off the computer for an extended period of time, I can run longer (maybe 1 1/2 hours) before a crash. After that, it's about 45 minutes before another crash. I thought there might be something with the memory, so I've replace the memory to eliminate that. Any other thoughts? Any suggestions welcome.
ntoskrnl.exe.
I am also having mini dumps referring to ntoskrnl.exe. You mention reinstalling Windows. My Windows 8 came on my new HP computer. How do I go about it without the DVD? I downloaded BlueView to get all the information. The Driver is ntoskrnl.exe and the address was ntoskrnl.exe+7a040.. Process is x64. Does this mean I have to take the computer back to where I purchased it?
Glad to hear that. You have a great day too!
The link to the minidump files does not appear to work. Make sure the minidump files are in a "public folder" "shared with everyone": Right-click the folder with the minidump files > Sharing > Get a link > Make Public Then copy and paste the link here. However because the 20-b034 has an AMD A68 chipset you may need to install the following microcode update for Windows 8 computers that use AMD processors: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2818604 So make sure that update, if applicable to your system, is installed. On the Desktop can you right-click the Action Center icon on the taskbar > Open Windows Update > Check for updates If KB2818604 shows up as a critical update can you install it and see if it helps.
You're welcome for the help. I believe you will benefit from installing the microcode update. I would also suggest to uninstall AVG as AVG drivers were involved in some of the crashes. Consider using just the Windows 8 built-in antivirus (Windows Defender) and firewall. After uninstalling AVG, to use Windows Defender click on the Action Center icon on the taskbar > Open Action Center > click on "Security" then click on "Turn on messages about virus protection" > then click on "Turn on now" which is beside "Windows Defender". Make sure the definitions are updated if not set up to install updates automatically. Also, in the Action Center, make sure Windows Firewall is turned on.
You're welcome. Thanks for the follow-up, and I hope that keeps working for you.
Hi Auggy: I have checked about the update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2818604 . It was updated yesterday. I did take avg out already and a couple of software programs I've had for a number of years. They could be windows 8 incompatible. I have done as you suggested and am using Windows for the security system. Do you think I need to do a reset to fix the ntoskrnl.exe challenge?
Hi Auggy: I am happy to report that the challenge seems to be corrected. Perhaps that update did the trick. Again, thanks for all your help. Liz
Hi Auggy: I can tell you I know more about my computer and windows 8 because of this. I am grateful for the better understanding. It will make me more mindful. Enjoy the rest of your day
Hi Auggy: Here is the address for the minidump file: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=43DA101DA0BE502B&id=43DA101DA0BE502B%21107 My HP is an all-in-one 20-b034 Windows 8 64-bit. Purchased Jan 29, 2013 I did a WDC diagnostic of the harddrive of the computer and my external drive which I use regularly and everything is fine there. I am presently doing a memtest of the RAM and so far everything is fine. The memtest has been running since Midnight and is still ongoing. Please let me know if you are able to get the zipped minidump file. Thank you for your assistance in this matter Liz
Also, what HP computer do have (model)? It is possible the error may be fixable without having to return the computer, hopefully the minidump files will provide some helpful info. Also, if you have an HP computer you should be able to create recovery media which can be used to restore the computer to factory default conditions: http://h20621.www2.hp.com/video-gallery/us/en/customer-care/2008493915001/creating-system-recovery-discs-in-windows-8-for-hp-compute
I have placed the zip file in the public folder at this link:https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=43DA101DA0BE502B&id=43DA101DA0BE502B%21105. Hope this works. I will check on the critical update. Thank you for all your help

I suspect, this may be related to VBox network, but to confirm that, please run Driver Verifier, the upload and share the resulting dump file.. Hi, I analyzed the minidump and nothing in there to directly help. ntoskrnl.exe is a Windows component which means something else drove it into Fault. 1. Check with ASUStek Support, their on-line documentation and drivers, and ask in thier forums about any known issues. Update the Microsoft MVP

Hi, From when are you facing this issue? As you don’t have Windows 7 installation disc, you can try repairing the startup errors without installation disc if the preinstalled recovery option is available. You can try following the below related web page information: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925810 Note The problem may not be resolved after the Startup Repair tool runs one time. If the problem is not resolved when the computer restarts, follow the steps again. Hope the information helps. Please post back and let us know.
BSOD - ntoskrnl.exe
Hello! I have an issue recently, my Lenovo X1 Carbon stops randomly with a BSOD IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I have the dmp file checked with bluescreen viewer. I tried reinstalling windows, it did not help. Bug check code: 0x0000000a Parameter 1: 00000000`40a87446 Parameter 2: 00000000`00000002 Parameter 3: 00000000`00000001 Pararmeter 4: fffff802`a7755983 Caused by address (crash address): ntoskrnl.exe+175430 Memtest and checkdisk were fine, without error, drivers are up to date. Is it a hardware problem? Do you have any suggestions to solve the problem? Thanks!
Hi, Performing a clean install of Windows should already eliminate all possible issues that you're having with the system. Considering that the issue still persists, we suggest contacting your computer's manufacturer to perform a hardware diagnostics to further isolate the issue. This issue can already be due to outdated or incompatible BIOS or Firmware. Get back to us if you have other queries.
Hi, the problem started 2 months ago, last week I did a clean reinstall. No new sw or driver were installed. I tried the steps behind the link without success. Thanks for your help.
Hi, Blue screen errors can be caused by a variety of hardware, firmware, driver, or software issues. The error message IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is usally cause by incorrect or corrupted driver. We would like to know if you;ve made any changes to the computer prior to the issue. In the meantime, we suggest following the troubleshooting steps under When did you get the error? section on this article: Troubleshoot blue screen errors . We'll be waiting for your response.
ntoskrnl.exe BSOD's
I've had my PC for a while now, over a year, a few months ago BSOD's started to come up, every time i played a game it would BSOD, mainly just crash but i dont know why, ive switched RAM, Graphics Card, and tried everything else i have found on forums etc, and about 10 windows technicians haven't seem to solve my problem, i use BlueScreenView to see what driver it is ( I have recently downgraded to Windows 8.1 to see if that helps, but it didn't... MEMORY_MANAGEMENT caused by ntoskrnl.exe bug check code: 0x0000001a I also on windows 10 use to get, IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL, KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED, FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA, afew more if you need them ill provide them. System Info: Processor - AMD FX(tm)-8320 Eight-Core Processor, 3500 Mhz Graphics card - NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660 RAM - 2x4GB sticks not sure of make Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P If anymore info is needed i will try my best to provide it :) Thankyou!
I ran the driver verifier and in about 10 mins it crashed, here is the dumpfile: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AksCjTTyfQ7jgkzHsy8w4c7NImWc Thankyou

If you do not know what this means you probably are not 1-Driver verifier ( for complete directions see our wiki here ) answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_other-system/driver-verifier-tracking-down-a-mis-behaving/f5cb4faf-556b-4b6d-95b3-c48669e4c983 2-Memtest. Thank you for looking into that more in depth than I just updated those drivers hoping that it works. So far today no crashes ,but going give it a week because used to happen once a week.
DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE ntoskrnl.exe :(
HI, I'm sorry for posting this Driver_power_state_failure related issue i know that there are already a lot of post about this one but it seems i cant find the solution. i have already tried doing the "sfc /scannow" and it said the there are no problems. btw my laptop is asus g551jw i7 16gb ram. below is the link for the dump file. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=C333677A0D9726EF%21381

Have they recently been updated, I've seen a little bit of information mention Nvidia drivers as a possible cause.
Hello Edison, Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community and I appreciate your efforts in resolving the issue. Good to know the result of the SFC scan that there is no problem. It means all of the system files are working fine. I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better. When do you receive this error message? Are all of the drivers and updates are installed and updated? Did you make any recent changes (Hardware or Software) on the computer? Do you have any security software installed on your system? I would suggest you to update all of the device drivers and install Windows updates. For updating drivers you may refer to the steps provided in the article provided below. This error may occur if some device drivers are not installed or if installed not updated. Download and install drivers You may also try to install the drivers from manufacturer's website (ASUS). Try to install the drivers and see if brings any difference. D
You can uninstall Nvidia via the Device Manage by right-clicking on the gtx 960m entry and selecting Uninstall You can also uninstall all the Nvidia stuff in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features. How do I uninstall my NVIDIA display drivers? http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_13955.html Display Driver Uninstaller: AMD, INTEL, NVIDIA Driver removal tool for Windows http://www.thewindowsclub.com/display-driver-uninstaller-amd-intel-NVidia
thanks sir! will try those, :) my video card is gtx 960m i have not tried updating it, should i still try to update it even if no prompt of update is needed? when i check it on my device manager it says that the device is working properly and no yellow triangle on it.
What have you tried? Did you try clean boot to or safe mode to see if you get the same error? Try http://www.vindamedia.com/windows/help/windows-8-general-errors I would also try anduninstall and reinstall the graphics drivers. Sorry I'm not near a computer that I read the minidump logs.
the error occured randomly although it isnt frequent, sir it seems that i need to install some windows updates, i tried to scan for updates and found out that there are 111 important updates. will install them now. and i hope it fixes the problem, i'll get back to you sir if BSOD occurs again. More powers and thank you for your help :)
sir it seems that by updating it doesnt fix the problem, i still got BSOD. recent install btw before i got bsod again was nvidia geforce experience below is the link for the new dump file https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=C333677A0D9726EF%21382
EA These are still related to your nVidia driver. I would remove completely the current driver and install the newest driver available (you do not have the most current driver). You cannot check device manager to see if you are up to date because you may be but the driver still may be corrupt
i have tried clean boot the error doesnt occur frequent it is random. anyway thank you sir! i'll those :) and will update if BSOD still occurs
nice! thank you! i will do that and i'll update if BSOD still occurs :) btw do have some guide or something that i can follow to PROPERLY uninstall and install the latest nVidia graphics driver? i'm seeing a lot of guides around the internet and they are all kinda different from each other. P.S. sorry for being paranoid. lol i just dont want to cause more errors in uninstalling and installing the driver :) cheers!

BSOD ntoskrnl.exe
Hi, two weeks ago I bought a Lenovo Z510 and it started to show problems the second day. I got two blue screens, they appeared when I was sleeping my laptop. I downloaded Bluescreenview and I found out that ntoskrnl.exe was causing the error. Searching for some solution decided to use OneKey Recovery and I left my computer like the first time I used it. I also updated to W8.1 (I bought it with W8) after that. It's worked perfectly these last week and then I got the blue screen again two times in two days. I think it happens because of some driver... I've seen other threads and I think this is the information that you need. I only have two .dmp because the others were deleted with the recovery: · Intel Core i5 4200m 2.5GHz · NVIDIA GeForce 740m · 8Gb RAM · 500Gb HDD + 8 SSD · Windows 8.1 64bits https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jm6skef8ne6u4dl/40vgoq9Uj3/Minidump.rar I'm very interested in resolve this problem. If you need more information ask me! Thank you.
The error is more likely precipitated by a driver from the Bluetooth, wireless or Panda. Some older drivers, especially third party firewall drivers, have been known to crash Windows 8/8.1.
It seems that according to Sigverif all my drivers (512) are signed :/ Ok I'll check Lenovo webpage!
I'm checking Lenovo support webpage and looking what drivers can I update. I see new drivers for bluetooth and wireless. It can be a wireless driver problem because lately also I have had some problems related with turning it on again when I disconnect it. I'll install these drivers and uninstall Panda software like you said and see how it goes. Thanks! Also, could it be because I have patched Microsoft Office with "AutoKMS"?
Bug Check 0x9F: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff559329(v=vs.85).aspx Forum: BSOD Crashes and Debugging http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/ See how many unsigned drivers you have running on your machine. Also, the minidump files referenced the btfilter.sys (bluetooth driver) and athw8x.sys (wireless driver) so make sure these drivers are up to date. However these types of errors can actually be caused by third party filter drivers such as third party firewall drivers. There appears to be older version of Panda software installed that may not be fully compatible with Windows 8.1 as the drivers are dated 2009. I would suggest to uninstall the Panda software and see if the BSODs resolve. Afterward you could reinstall the Panda software using the latest version or go with alternative security software such as Windows 8.1 built-in antivirus (Windows Defender) and firewall.

Hi, Your welcome! Thank you for keeping us updated and glad to know that the issue is fixed.
Hi, We have two dumps files attached, two different bugchecks: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a) A kernel-mode driver or process attempted to access a protected memory location it does not have permission for, or a kernel interrupt request level (IRQL) attempted to access a memory address that is too high. This bugcheck usually occurs when a driver uses an incorrect memory address. Other possible causes of this error include: bug in a device driver, system service, the BIOS, an old Anti-virus program or backup tool, or possibly memory issues. MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a) This indicates that a severe memory management error occurred. BugCheck 1A, { 41793 , fffff68000081000, 1, 0} The 1st parameter of the bugcheck is 41793 which falls under the 'other' category in regards to *1A parameters - An unknown memory management error occurred. Hi, I would suggest you to run Driver Verifier to diagnose the exact issue with the drivers. Refer to the link “ Driver Verifier in Windows 8 ” to know how to run the driver verifier. Try this and reply with more information to diagnose and provide you better solution.
ntoskrnl.exe error
Hi all Our company has bought a Dell computer 2 months ago and now it either restarts or shuts down once a week. By using Dell Diagnosis, all hardware pass. Based on the minidump file (http://sdrv.ms/1aBCHVb), Dell claim it's problem with ntoskrnl.exe. But the date of minidump is just the 1st day I activate the computer. I just want to know which software makes the error. Does it fix the problem if I re-install Windows? Actually I still query it's failure of the PSU but Dell claims no. Computer spec: Dell Optiplex 9010 CPU: i7-3770 Ram: 1 x Hynix DDR3 4GB 1600MHz HDD: 500GB Display: NVIDIA GT640 1G Windows 7 Pro x64 Thanks a lot Terry
Hi, We don't know that yet, and hopefully it won't come to that. Please keep me updated after following my instructions. Regards, Patrick
No, very unlikely. Not on the first day of purchase unless you deliberately did something to cause it to get infected. Also, not sure why they'd instruct you to reinstall Windows and THEN run a virus scan. If you reinstalled Windows, if you had a virus, it'd be wiped. Keep me updated. Regards, Patrick
Thanks ZZ The dump file is on 26 June 2013 and I am not sure if Symantec had been installed or not. But in the minidump folder, there is only 1 file. I don't know why there is no more dump file generated for recent restart/shutdown incident. The problem is we have around 10 computers running Windows 7 & Symantec, but none of them has this error. Also, our company has bought and used Symantec for many years and it's difficult to explain why change of anti-virus software for 1 incident in 1 computer. Btw, I will try to remove Symantec and see. Thanks.
Definitely agree with ZZ, I'd remove and replace Norton ASAP with Microsoft Security Essentials for temporary troubleshooting purposes: Norton removal tool - https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us;jsessionid=841A6D40BA6872C47697C6C6B19C8E11.4?entsrc=redirect_pubweb&pvid=f-home MSE - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download Regards, Patrick
Thanks Patrick I also find Dell's answer quite strange. Therefore, I come here to find different answer. So, what I can do now is: 1. Update the network driver 2. Run Driver Verifier 3. If no blue screen, it's fine. If yes, I will place the dump file here. 4. Then, I will try to remove Symantec temporarily and see if any blue screen appear or any dump file is generated. Thanks again
Terry Just a note in passing. I would more suspect Symantec than a virus in the first day. They have an awful reputation when it comes to BSODS and if you are running two live malware applications that even more strongly points to the Malware apps. That one DMP file (BTW) is from June 26, 2013 and Symantec isnt even installed on the OS at that point. Patrick needs more DMP files and current ones to be able to find what is wrong with the computer NOW
Thanks Patrick I will try it later Btw, Dell claim the error of ntoskrnl.exe could be due to virus (we are using Symantec Endpoint protection version 12 as anti-virus) and suggest us to re-install Windows and scan for virus immediately. Do you think it's possible? The computer got infected on the 1st working day? Thanks again Terry
Hi, The attached DMP file is of the BAD_POOL_HEADER (19) bugcheck. This indicates that a pool header is corrupt. Regards, Patrick
Thanks Patrick That means you think the most possible cause is the network drivers. If all drivers are okay, then it would be hardware problem, right? Thanks a lot, I will try Terry
That is a very good checklist to run through, keep us updated :+) Regards, Patrick

Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP via Network Connections, Right mouse click on LAN in use, select Properties, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Properties, Advanced, WINS Tab, Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Then enjoy the quiet...
Hi, Try adding firewall rule to allow all traffic and that took care of it. 1) make sure you have the latest version and updats for SEP 2) Check the Symantec site for known issues 3) I would check the Windows event logs for a little more info. http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/traffic-blocked-ntoskrnlexe $ Good Luck $

Hi Surendar, Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum. I really appreciate your efforts towards resolving the issue. Did you make any software changes (installed drivers etc.) to the computer prior to this issue? Are you able to boot to the desktop? If you are unable to boot to the system at all, the I would suggest you to use the Windows 8 installation media or recovery disk to Download and install drivers Hope this information is helpful. If the issue still persists, please post back for further assistance, we'll be glad to assist you

It worked!!! Thank you very much! I guess I should not install drivers through softwares like IObit driver booster, driver finder, etc..
Yes, I updated drivers using Iobit driver booster. I can boot to desktop but when I turn on or turn off charger, BSOD occurs. More derails: 1. My laptop is now not charging when plugged in. When the laptop is off and when I plug it in, the LED light does not glow in my laptop. When laptop is on, sometimes it is showing 'fully charged', sometimes 'plugged in but not charging'. 2. Tried system restore but it says 'cannot access a file'. Tried disabling antivirus. Tried restore in safe mode. Tried unchecking system volume information of C drive's read only attribute. Still, restore fails with same error. 3. Tried to refresh my laptop but it says some files are missing. 4. In device manager, no device has exclamation mark or red cross symbol. 5. My AC adapter works fine with another laptop. 6. Tried hardware and devices troubleshooting and 'scan for hardware changes' option in device manager. Both lead to BSOD before they complete. 6. Can boot without battery. Again, hardware and devices t

I have been having the problem of BSOD for 3 days now. Have tried lots of solution, nothing works. It's a clean install of Win 10 Pro, updated drivers, memtest86 with 0 errors for 8 hours, disk checking with 0 errors and bad sectors. I don't know what else to do. I have SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, CACHE_MANAGER, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, BAD_POOL_CALLER, ACTIVE_EX_WORKER_THREAD_TERMINATION. All caused by driver ntoskrnl.exe. These crashes were related to memory corruption ( probably caused by a driver ). Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem. Please run verifier first. You do not need to run memtest yet unless verifier does not find the cause, or you want to. If you are over-clocking anything reset to default before running these tests. ntoskrnl.exe SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
Hi I keep getting BSOD at random times, and using bluescreen I have determined the problem relates to the ntoskrnl.exe file. Although I have had similar problems with dxgkrnl.sys. The problem is very annoying and can happen totally randomly. A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ntoskrnl.exe SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advance
Nice answer BUT DON'T go uninstalling your NIC drivers till you have the replacement downloaded to your PC and ready to load or you need a second machine and a USB drive to transfer the drivers across.

DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE - ntoskrnl.exe ?
My ASUS laptop was fine when I first bought it, then Windows updated it to 10 and I was having relentless BSOD problems, so I went back to Windows 8.1. Even though I downgraded I'm STILL having these BSODs and they are always labelled as "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE". It's strange because the system never (or very rarely) BSODs when on power, but is impossible to use on battery due to these BSODs. Link to three BSOD dumps that occured all within 5 minutes of one another: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0By5riAYe0RMCbG1MMnE4SHQ2aU0 I've been trying to find a fix for this problem for months now so I appreciate any advice anyone can give. Thank you in advance.

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible. WE NEED AT LEAST TWO DMP FILES TO SPOT TRENDS AND CONFIRM THE DIAGNOSIS. If you are overclocking (pushing the components beyond their design) you should revert to default at least until the crashing is solved. If you dont know what it is you probably are not overclocking. I had the BSOD before when I was running vista and I got a suggestion to just do a fresh install. So I did a fresh install of windows 7 and I'm still receiving the Bluescreens :( http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?igd59v8l7qelpa1 I've moved the ram around and still no luck :( any clues / help? Should I underclock my computer?
I've narrowed down the problems.. these blue screens only happen when I play High-end games. "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval. " this the basic message it always seems to repeat.. Does this mean I need to update my Bios? It's all I can think of..
it happens on any game.. even 2d games.. also the scan said no problems
I've updated my bios and everything seemed to be working great.. but I downloaded a game to play and it started back up again.. I removed the game and I still receive them or random freezing (screen stays frozen.. doesn't transfer into a bluescreen)

Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk. Please contact the Computer manufacturer for assistance.
Hi, Thank you for the reply. I would have you refer the article: Windows hangs or freezes http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681286?wa=wsignin1.0 If the issue still continues then I would suggest you to contact the game manufacturer.

ntoskrnl.exe problem
Hi, recently my computer has started randomly restarting or crashing. Minidump says the culprit is a driver by the name of ntoskrnl.exe. Normally it happens when IE9 is running. Would anyone know how to remedy this problem? Thanks
Thank you for the reply Sandeep. I have already performed the tasks that you suggested. Since my query, the computer has been fine.? If it happens again someone suggested using the original installation disk for win7 to do a repair. Do you think this may work? Regards, Neville
Hi Neville, Do you get a blue screen? This issue could have caused due to corrupt drivers in the computer. Method 1: I would suggest you to run a check disc to fix corrupt hard disc sectors and drivers. Check a drive for errors http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors . Important: Data available on bad sectors might be lost when chkdsk tries to repair your hard disc. Method 2: I suggest you to update all the drivers. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly You can also download updated drivers from the manufacturer’s website and install on your computer. Check with the hardware vendor for any updated hardware drivers or BIOS updates, or both. NOTE : Modifying BIOS settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS settings can e solved. Modifications of the settings

Here is a link to my dump: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=277105223D3E7A8B!1354&authkey=!ANPLezSfaWdJYYo&ithint=file%2cDMP I've noticed the system crashing when I don't shut it down and sleep it around 5 times a day. I can't figure it out and would appreciate some help here.

If any BSOD re-occurs can you provide the resulting dump file. The other issue may not be related so you may want to consider starting a new topic just on that issue.
Thank you for getting back to me and deciphering the error. I have the latest updates on pretty much everything. I'm lucky since my unit is made by Microsoft as all the drivers come through them so I think I'm good as far as that goes. I have proceeded to uninstall Forticlient - it's a light-weight application so I wouldn't expect it to cause problems but we'll see. Additionally I have noticed that when I come out of sleep once in a while some of the network devices (wifi/LTE) don't function properly without an additional sleep cycle. Other times I can't reboot the machine after coming out of sleep without holding the power button down to restart the system. About two months ago (I have had the system for almost 5 months now) I did a complete reinstall of Windows and my applications to see if this would fix anything. Thus far my symptoms haven't resolved and if anything have gotten worse.
Also, the FortiFW2.sys is shown as an "unloaded" driver and this may indicate an issue with this driver especially as the ndis.sys is referenced in the error as shown by SpiritX. The FortiFW2.sys may be a driver for FortiClient. Can you uninstall, at least temporarily, FortiClient and see if the BSODs resolve.

i keep on getting blue screen errors can someone help They mostly seem to be when the computer tries to go into sleep mode Mini040113-01.dmp 01/04/2013 13:18:42 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA 274,656 i have updated all my drivers and checked the hard drive for errors
The driver in the third error is SiRemFil.sys. Find the file (probably in c:\windows\system32\drivers) and right click - Properties - Details Public folder and copy the link from the address bar.
thanks for your reply but i had another blue screen error and it has deleted my blue screen error reports and a few other things so i am not able to to send you the info you require and to be honest i have had all i can take trying to fix my pc sorry for wasting your time
I have tried method 1 with no success. I cannot do method 2 as I haven't saved a restore point early enough. Method 3 - the windows start up repair doesn't pick up any errors. Method 4 - I have already tried all the system restore options from the vista DVD, it didn't work. and I haven't re-installed Windows because I have service pack 2 and the Vista DVD won't let me. ps I have checked the hard disc for errors and found none. I have also updated all of my drivers where possible. . .
Hi Garydp, Based on the description, it appears that you are getting an error message "ntoskrnl.exe" is missing. I will be happy to help you in this issue. - Have you made any changes to the computer prior to this issue? Method 1: I would suggest you to disconnect all the external devices except keyboard and mouse, then try to boot the computer. However, you should still back up the files. If you have data files that are encrypted, you might not be able to access them after installing Windows Vista. If you've backed up your data files and then restored them after installing Windows Vista, you can delete the Windows.old folder. Hope this helps. Try the above steps and get back to us for further assistance. We will be happy to help you.
Blue Screen - APC_INDEX_MISMATCH - ntoskrnl.exe - ntoskrnl.exe+a44a0
Hi, can anyone help to find a solution to the blue screen error I started to receive after upgrading Dell E7270 drivers? ================================================== Dump File : 041918-10779-01.dmp Crash Time : 19.04.2018 17:37:52 Bug Check String : APC_INDEX_MISMATCH Dump File Time : 16.04.2018 20:07:06 ==================================================
Clive: Please start a new topic/question for the issue with your system. It is extremely unlikely that a core Windows system file like ntoskrnl.exe is the real cause of the problem or millions of systems all over the world would be crashing - and they're not. This one crash dump hints at an audio driver but sometimes more than one crash dump is needed to zero on on the cause so if you have more recent crash dumps they would need to be looked at too.
I'm having the same problem on a Dell E5570. I don't know what made it start, but I think it was when Dell automatically updated some drivers. Crash dump here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Au2sKQYv_Rfga6yadYkexfpNxmM APC_INDEX_MISMATCH ntoskrnl.exe+a44a0 OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Cheers, Clive
The troubleshooting step(s) you should do are to provide more information about your system and upload some recent crash dump files for analysis. Note that programs like BlueScreenView, WhoCrashed, etc. are accurate sometimes about the real cause of crashes but they are also often (usually) wrong about the real cause of the crashes. The only way to get the real cause is to analyze some crash dump files. It is also extremely unlikely that any generic troubleshooting steps from some troubleshooting article are going to help but who knows - you might get lucky. I guess we'll see how that advice works out. It looks like your system is generating crash dump files so you need to upload some recent ones for analysis: Full Path C:\Windows\Minidump\ 041618-10358-01.dmp Describe in detail what this means, what drivers were updated, how you did the driver updates and why you did the driver updates: after upgrading Dell E7270 drivers Can you make the system crash anytime you want - like

My computer crashed last night for no apparent reason. When restarted, i get several different error messages when it boots into "Recovery". Saying my OS cannot be loaded because the "......." is missing or contains errors. Some of the said "missing files" include.... ntoskrnl.exe winload.efi storport.sys I have tried to recover my pc by booting from disc. I do not have a recovery disc as Asus was not nice enough to provide one to me when the pc was purchased. No matter what i do it just comes back to the same screen. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as i am at about whits end with this issue. Sadly, i cannot provide much as far as information from the PC as i cannot boot up to anything to get much of anything. Thanks again.

Hi, What is the exact issue you are facing with ntoskrnl.exe? ntoskrnl.exe is the kernel image for the family of Microsoft Windows operating systems. It provides the kernel and executive layers of the Windows kernel space, and is responsible for various system services such as hardware virtualization, process and memory management, etc., thus making it a fundamental part of the system. It contains the cache manager, the executive, the kernel, the security reference monitor, the memory manager, and the scheduler, among other things.

I did the Driver Verifier but I couldn't get on to the normal boot mode without crashing as soon as I went in. So went into Safe Mode but it hasn't crashed yet so I don't really know. I have all of the DriverVerifier BSoDs in the link below https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=2C352A0BA54EF102!720&authkey=!AFZNuk5dY0Xm9T8&ithint=file%2c.rar Thanks Felix There is really nothing helpful in these except to note that you still have webroot installed. If it hasn't been crashing during normal use, there is nothing more we can do. Just keep an eye on it and if it does crash, post the dump files and we'll take a look.

F Still related to webroot and driver verified. I would remove it and use the built in defender. To turn verifier off type verifier /reset from an elevated command prompt
These were inconclusive please run driver verifier to confirm the underlying problem Please run these tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem. 2-Memtest. ( You can read more about running memtest here ) Co-Authored by JMH3143 .
Alright. It hasn't crashed yet, other then when I was creating a restore point and also doing a memtest at the same time, but anyways thanks :)

Hi again ! I don't understand the problem because until today that I had blocked all the updates my laptop tried so many times to update the windows to 1709 version but when ever it was doing the process an error occurred and the updating was cancelled . plz help me with the problem with special thanks Soroosh
Hi Soroosh, This issue occurs if your computer is not up to date. For us to isolate the issue, we will need to ask you a few questions: Are you getting any error messages? What troubleshooting steps have you done so far? Any recent changes made prior to the issue? Is your computer up to date? We would recommend that you keep your computer up to date and the best way to do it is to turn on automatic updates. With automatic updates, you don’t have to search for updates online or possibly miss critical fixes or device drivers for your Windows PC. Windows Update automatically installs important updates as they become available. Here are the steps on how to do it: Select the Start button , then select Settings > Update & security > Windows Update. If you want to check for updates manually, select Check for updates. Select Advanced options , and then under Choose how updates are installed , select Automatic (recommended) . Feel free to contact us if you have further inquiries.
We appreciate your response. In order for us to isolate and provide you the best resolution, we would recommend that you answer the questions on the above post and you may also try the troubleshooting steps that were provided. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have further inquiries.
Ntoskrnl.exe BSOD
Hello, my laptop is receiving random BSOD's . I have ran windows memory diagnostic with no errors, and also did the /sfc scannow check without any problems. My latest dump file's info is this: ================================================== Dump File : 032617-40609-01.dmp Crash Time : 26/3/2017 1:46:22 μμ Bug Check String : IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Here's the link for the minidump file https://www.dropbox.com/s/wowfos0e02oa503/032617-40609-01.zip?dl=0
I think I uninistalled this utility when I first bought the laptop (I thought it was bloatware) So maybe this was causing the issues. I will observe it and see if it appears again. Thank you very much sir, that might have been the solution
You're welcome, and good luck!
I added the link for the single dump file I found (.zip) at the bottom of my post
The minidump file did not show a particular third-party driver as causing the crash but it may be related to the iaStorA.sys which is the Intel storage driver and appears to be dated Jun 2014. Try updating the Intel storage driver: http://www.dell.com/support/home/ca/en/cabsdt1/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=CWF39&fileId=3594676841&osCode=WT64A&productCode=inspiron-15-5558-laptop&languageCode=en&categoryId=SA
Can you zip up the minidump files in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and make available (provide link) via a public folder on OneDrive or similar site? Here's a link on using OneDrive:: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/onedrive/share-file-folder If you have problems zipping the minidump files copy the minidump files to another location such as a folder on the Desktop Also, you do not necessarily have to zip up the minidump files, you can upload them one at a time.

Do you have ZoneAlarm or any 3rd party firewall installed? If so that could be the cause. Other main possibilities include the NIC and/or WiFi drivers. Norton and Broadcom have also caused this error. This Hotfix "Might" apply however do not use unless you are fairly sure. Using two Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) drivers causes a computer to crash when the computer is running Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979278 Rob Brown - MS MVP - Windows Desktop Experience : Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.
Thanks for your help. It appears it was ZoneAlarm, the newest version. After removing ZA, the BDOS's ended.

If ZoneAlarm is installed, the problem is most likely ZoneAlarm as in the following thread: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7repair/thread/b1937dcd-37f1-487a-a49d-3ee4434c8295 You could try disabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP or uninstall ZoneAlarm.

Each manufacturer has their own way of putting it back to out-of-the-box conditiion. Can only give you general info on it. How to put your Computer back to Factory Settings: You do not say whether you have a Vista DVD, or not. If you do, go into Bios/setup at startup/Power on by hitting F2 or Delete, depending on your type of computer, or you may have F12 to go into the Boot Menu, and change it there, and set the DVD to be 1st in the Boot Order, reboot with DVD in that Drive, load files, delete existing Vista partition, create new partition, formatt, install, etc. If a Manufacturer's Recovery DVD came with the computer, follow directions upon reboot via same Boot Order method above. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If the computer manufacturer did not include Vista disk/s, there should be a Recovery Partition on your Hard drive. That is the way they do it now, most of the time. We are supposed to make the Recovery Disks ourselves, with instructions included in

Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer In Event Viewer Click on Windows Logs and then on System and there you will find the name of driver causing problem. Please send your minidump.dmp from C:/Windows for further analysis.
We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible. You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking. If you are overclocking stop. (chances are if you dont know if you are, you are not)a To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure: * Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine. * Zip up the copy. * Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button. (if available on your site, MS doesnt have this) *Please upload them to a file sharing service like Skydrive or"Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply. Link for how to upload below. http://www.wikihow.com/Use-SkyDrive To ensure minidumps are enabled: * Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysd

Is AVG still installed? Looks like there's only 1 file on the hdd that belongs to it avgtpx64.sys If its uninstalled, use its removal tool to remove the rest of it. I would run the removal tool for trendmicro. If it's been uninstalled. Since it looks like there's a file TMEBC64.sys on the hdd that belongs to it If both are still installed, uninstall one. You should only have 1 firewall installed. Otherwise, they'll conflict
Upload the dmp files to Skydrive. Then post a link for them here
