Virus causing issue with Print spooler is not running in XP
My desktop is running Windows XP home edition SP3. All of sundden the printers are gone from "Printers and Faxes". "Print spooler service is not running" pops up when I tried to add a printer. I tried to manually start print spooler service, but it crashes immediately after I click "printers and faxes" from control panel. The following logs are captured from ntsd: Microsoft (R) Windows User-Mode Debugger Version 5.1.2600.0 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. 0:004> Please HELP
John, thank you very much for your hint. The problem is gone and my printer is back to work, after run a full scan using Malwarebytes. And you are absolutely right. C.tmp is a virus/malware.
The usual reason for the Print Spooler to stop running is a corrupt print job or a corrupt printer driver. A. Clean out the pending print jobs Open a Command Prompt window (Start > Run > cmd > OK) Type the following in the black Command Prompt window and press Enter after each line (don't forget the double quote marks) net stop spooler del /Q "%windir%\system32\spool\PRINTERS\*.*" net start spooler exit B. Clean out the old printer drivers and install the latest drivers using the directions in Article One . If you have (or had) a Lexmark printer, follow the directions at this site before installing the new drivers as explained in Article One: http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm
I tried both. They did not fix the problem. Thanks anyway. If you think of anything that could help, please post it. Appreciate it.
Thanks John for the suggestion. I suspected that too. Mircosoft Security Essential is installed in my desk top. I am running a full scan to see if it can find anything. If you come up with any other ideas, please post it. Thanks again.
I think that you might have virus/malware activity on your machine: *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for C:\DOCUME~1 \Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\C.tmp In general nothing should be loading from a temp location and the file name is quite suspicious. John
You're welcome. Thanks for the follow-up. John

problem with java
Hi, im having problem with java on my windows 7 (64bit)... im playing an online game called Runescape, and some times the game just crash. for some reason i cant install java for 64 bit, im stuck with 32. i have tried uninstall the program and download the newest relese. i got an report from the program: # elapsed time: 136 seconds please help!
Please note that if you are using both 32-bit and 64-bit IE, you need to download both 32-bit and 64-bit Java respectively. So make sure you’re testing for java using the appropriate version of IE or better install both 32-bit and 64-bit version of Java. Hence, I’d suggest you to download the offline package manually and try installing the same. Refer the following articles: Which version of Java should I download for my 64-bit Windows operating system? http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_win64bit.xml Download errors: 1305, 2755, 1606, etc. http://www.java.com/en/download/help/error_installshield.xml Installing Java http://java.com/en/download/help/index_installing.xml?user_os=Windows%207 download the appropriate java setup file and save it on HD. Physically disconnect your computer from the internet, that's right - pull out Ethernet cable or disconnect wireless connection. Install java from setup file (note: no error message). Reboot (not sure if necessary but done anyway). Rec
Windows Explorer crashing - Fault Module Name = StackHash_6b11
I'm posting a new question about this because though there are many discussions about windows explorer crashing none of them seem to address this specific cause / crash report. Windows Explorer crashes - fairly often. It restarts without a problem. I just re installed Windows 7 - a clean install with a formatted boot drive. I was having this problem before. It may be connected to a network drive - I think it happens when I browse a network drive. However I am not completely certain that this is the only time it happens. Another possibly connected issue is that the copy/paste sometimes stops working in W/Exp. Copying does not cause the crash or prophecy an impending crash - however it is another pointer that may help someone tell what is broken! thanks for any help with this! Windows Explorer Crashing because of StackHash_a417 errors
Hi, I'm having random Explorer crashes. According to online sources, this error can be cause by a DEP conflict. However, it seems to me that explorer is compatible with DEP. Any ideas? Here's the logs: Version=1 EventType=BEX64 Any help appreciated! Mithrandir
Hi, Thank you for your reply. Actually, I did create a new user account, but as I mentioned earlier, due to the randomness of this crash, it wasn't a realistic way to troubleshoot, because I haven't had this crash for about a month since your last reply. But today, I got another one, this time caused by msvcrt.dll. I've included the details below. Hope this helps! Mithrandir Version=1 EventType=APPCRASH AppName=Windows Explorer AppPath=C:\Windows\explorer.exe
Hi, Thank you for your prompt response. Actually, about six months ago, I ran SFC as a preliminary troubleshooting procedure. I ran it again today, and found no integrity violations. Any ideas?? Thanks, Mithrandir
Hello Mithrandir, You try to disable the Anti-Virus and then try to install the update after a restart. Temporarily disable anti-virus by following the below link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software Note : Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks. Hope this helps. Otherwise, feel free to write us back for further assistance and we will be glad to help you ahead. Thank you
Hello Mithrandir, Thank you for the update. I would advise you to create a new user account and see if you get the same error prompt in the new user account as well. To create a user account follow this link: Create User Account http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=windows-7 Hope this helps. Otherwise, feel free to write us back for further assistance.
Hello Mithrandir, You may try to follow the link below to create a new user account and test the issue in new user account, see if that helps. Hi Shalini, Haven't heard from you in a while...any tips to resolve my issue? I already created a new user account, but due to the randomness I described earlier, it wasn't an effective way to troubleshoot the issue. Thanks, Mithrandir
Thank you for your reply. Answering your questions: 1. No, as I said, it's completely random, sometimes it crashes when I just double click on a folder on my desktop. 2. No, not really, because this has been happening for a long time, again, in a random way...sometimes more often, like 3 or 4 crashes within 10 min, but other times it will not crash at all for days. Due to this randomness, I'm not sure if a clean boot would be effective in resolving the problem, but I can try it if you'd like. Also, a bit of history on this issue: I previously contacted support about Explorer crashes, but these were due to the faulty module atiacm.dll, an optional component of the AMD graphics driver. Disabling the module with ShellEx fixed the problem, but now I'm getting StackHash_a417 cited as the source of the crash. Here are the event logs you requested, I hope they are the right ones. I exported all events from Event Viewer (Local)\Windows\Application. Here's the link to the file: http://we.tl/aUD

Hi Jesse, Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum. Did you make any significant hardware or software changes to the computer prior to this issue? Does it happen when you access some specific application? If so, name the application that you initiate. The causes of ntdll.dll error messages can vary greatly. However, most ntdll.dll errors result from a corrupt or damaged version of the ntdll.dll file itself, corrupt hardware drivers, or issues between Windows and other programs. Its the end of the day. I log out of my computer. The next day I come in, and go to log onto my computer and there is a popup error at the Windows 7 log on screen stating that "Explorer.exe has crashed". At this point I click "OK", and I proceed and enter my credentials. Then, Windows freezes. I reboot the computer, and all works fine. -- The next morning when I go to use my computer, the same exact thing happens. No other programs or anything is running this literally happens at the logon screen, It doesn't happen any other time, just at the logon screen.

Windows Explorer crashes randomly
Since I have upgraded my PC to Windows 10, Windows explorer keep crashing randomly. It happens when I search for items on my C drive but also when within any third party applications I try to open a new file. I have tried sfc /scannow, dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, reinstall Windows 10 etc... not to avail. Hi Auggy, Thank you for your response. I have renamed the ADIST64.dll to ADIST64.old but Windows Explorer still crashes. I have also downloaded Shexview and disabled all Adobe related .dll but the problem still persists. This is driving me crazy.
Try temporarily uninstalling AVG and see if the issue resolves. Afterwards you could reinstall AVG using the latest version.
I have just tried to uninstall AVG and the explorer still crashes. Any other ideas? Thank you for your help Auggy.
Hi Auggy, here is the latest dump file s. Note that I have re-installed AVG.
Can you provide the latest dump files since renaming the ADIST64.dll.
Can you provide the latest dump files?
Hi Auggy, Here is the latest dump files . Thanks!
Hi Sudeep, Thank you for your reply. Any search (word documents, jpg etc..) on any folders on my c:/ drive or network drive will eventually cause windows explorer to crash and restart. My CRM (ACT!) crashed when I try to open a query file, the Windows Event viewer crashed when I tried to save the error report, Outlook crashed when I tried to attached a file to an email etc.. It's basically any applications that requires to open Windows Explorer to browse to a file. I can't think of any new software except maybe CCleaner and some drivers and bios update from DELL that was installed after the upgrade. I tried to boot in safe mode but Windows Explorer still crashes. I performed a clean boot to with no more luck. I really tried everything I could think of, including reinstalling Windows 10. I am out of ideas.

Hi Subbarao, I understand the frustration when things don't work as expected. You may post the question in the link mentioned below if only Microsoft Project Professional crashes for better assistance. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-project-os_device_win7?sort=lastreplydate&dir=desc&tab=Threads&status=&mod=&modAge=&advFil=&postedAfter=&postedBefore=&threadType=All&tm=1429126043245 But, if other applications too crash then you may place the computer in clean boot and check if it helps. To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." First thought is that something pretty basic is wrong so Project probably didn't install properly so I would: Repair the Project installation Install SP1 for Project 2013 and the latest updates. Windows update will do this for you
Thanks Rod for the response. I have installed MS Project professional 2013 on factory clean machine also. The issue still exists. The issue exists even after installing SP1 for Project 2013. I have not done windows update, but downloaded Project 2013 SP1 and installed it. My machine is 64-bit. Does that cause any issue.

I recently replaced my old C: drive hard drive(freaking thing lasted since 2003, got to love those WD drives) by cloning it to my newly installed hard drive. I used acronis true image WD Edition to do that. I find I can not update thru window update button. Anything you suspect from MGA Diagnostic report...? Yes. The 0x80070002 very strongly suggest that a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial came preinstalled on the computer when you bought it. 1. What installation media did you use to do the clean install of Vista on the SSD drive last year (e.g., the set of OEM discs that came with the computer; a set of Recovery discs you'd created earlier; an image you'd created earlier)? 2. Has Comcast's Constant Guard Protection Suite or Comcast's Norton Security Suite been installed since you replaced the HDD last year? 3. Open Windows Explorer [ WinKey+E ] to & right-click on C:\Program Files\ AVAST Software <=this folder Select PROPERTIES : What's the CREATED date on the resulting GENERAL tab?
I haven't been able to update since changing my hard drive (died) cloned to a solid state drive (Nov-Dec 2013). Are you telling us that you haven't install any updates since you replaced your HDD with a SSD a year ago?
Please answer each of the following [admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions in a correspondingly-numbered list in your very next reply, preferably without quoting my post: 1. When (approx. date) did you purchase the computer? 2. What is the full name of your installed anti-virus application or security suite and when (approx. date) does your current subscription expire? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender) are installed? What third-party firewall (if any)? 3. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you replaced the HDD ? 4. Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial [pick one] come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.) 5. Is Firefox, Chrome or any other alternate browser installed? Note: The computer should NOT be connected to the internet or any local networks (i.e., other computers) in its current state. All of your personal data (e.g., onlin

1. Had Comcast's Constant Guard Protection Suite or Comcast's Norton Security Suite ever been installed by the time you created the Macrium Reflect image? 2. What, if any, anti-virus application was installed between November 2013 (when you replaced the HDD with the SSD) and 01 November 2014 (when you installed Avast Free, I assume)? 3. I see you have Chrome as the system's default Browser. Is IE8 working OK when you intentionally choose to use it? Speaking of which... 4. Is Adobe Flash Player for Internet Explorer v184.108.40.206 (or higher) installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORER ONLY! => http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ 5. Is Chrome v 38.0.2125.122 installed now?
I turned off 2013 Avast to see if it was interfering with the WIndows update. Tried turning on & off the the update thru DOS and/or MSconfig...when updates still didn't work, I tried to turn Avast back on but it didn't for some reason,so uninstalled & installed updated 2015 Avast. I've always had the computer connected to internet...no problems/virus etc except the update issue. Avast always blocked malware and/or other items. Avast states my computer is clean I believe I'm going to just do a clean install of Vista over the weekend. Unless you or someone on this forum can tell me that it can be avoided and there is a fix for the update issue. Thanks.
Thats correct. I haven't been able to update Vista since Nov13. I really busy with work and didnt pay all that much attention/didn't know it wasnt updating until recently. Any help would be appreciated. I would hate to resort to saving all pertinent files and doing a clean install if that can be avoided. Thanks.
Did you uninstall Avast Free (2013?) & then do a clean install of Avast Free 2015 on 01 November for some reason or...? Had your previous Avast Free license already expired by the time you installed Avast Free 2015? How long has the computer been connected to the internet since you replaced the HDD a year ago?
1) It wasn't a clean install. I cloned my old hard drive to the SSD using Macrium Reflect software. 2) Have not installed Comcast's Constant Guard Protection Suite or Comcast's Norton Security Suite. It was prob remanants from old hard drive. 3) Avast Created 1Nov2014 Is a clean install avoidable? Can the current system setup be fixed? It seems I'm gonna end up backing the important files & doing a complete clean install of Vista

Outlook 2016 crashes using it with Exchange Server 2010
Hi, I'm running a laptop and desktop with Outlook 2016 on Windows 10. I have 2 profiles for Outlook, 1 for work connecting to Microsoft Exchange and 1 for charity work connecting to an Exchange Server 2010. The 1st profile works without any problem. The 2nd one worked for a short while on both the laptop and the desktop, but crashes after a few weeks of using it. I can access the charity emails on Outlook 2013 on Windows 7 and Windows 10 without a problem. The thread 0x1a60 has exited with code -2146233082 (0x80131506). The program ' OUTLOOK.EXE' has exited with code -2146233082 (0x80131506).
Hi Markus, Since the issue is related to an Exchange server email account, I request you to post this query in following TechNet forum for better suggestion: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrclients/threads Thank you.

Hello Uday, Hope my previous post indicates that I have already tried these solutions and it didn't work. Look forward to someone who will really get me out of this mess. However, thanks a lot for your reply! Regards, Satyajit
Thank God! Finally I worked it out myself. But, it's painful to observe hardly anybody other than Uday replied to my problem. Something I was so eagerly waiting for. I applied my common sense and defragmented the dirives and then sfc /scannow, and it worked. Cryptographic Services stated when I set it to log on as Network Account. Thus, my problem is solved. Now windows update is working fine. Interestingly, Microsoft Fix it, said it can't start Cryptographic Services. God, then what the ____ are you supposed to fix? It did put Internet Explorer Icon back on my desktop and other places.
Hello Satyajit-Dey , Thank you for using Microsoft Windows Vista Forums. Method 1: Follow the instructions in the link below to reset Windows update components. How do I reset Windows Update components? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 Method 2: Follow the instructions in the link below to rename Software distribution and catroot folders and try to install the service pack. You cannot install some updates or programs http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798 Method 3: Perform System File Checker (SFC) scan which will help you in resolving the issue. To determine whether the issue that you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the system files by using the correct versions. Follow the instructions in the link below to run SFC scan. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212/ That should fix the issue for you. Thank you. Rega

Windows XP is suddenly showing not genuine
I know there have been other threads on this but could someone help me please? I installed the windows updates today (about 25 of them) and when I restarted the computer it was a black screen and said that my copy of Vista was not genuine. I assure you it is genuine, and I have the product key on the bottom of my laptop which I could retype if it would bring up a screen that would let me! I ran the MGA diagnostic tool and this is what it says: Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0): ----------------------------------------- Windows Validation Data--> Validation Status: Invalid License Many thanks Julia
Ignore the error message from MGADiag - it simply meqans that it can't save the log files where it wants to (the root directory), nad shouldn't make any difference to the ability to paste the report to your response. exactly which commands were not available? what was the error? In Normal Mode, you should be able to open Internet Explorer, and follow the 'fix' instructions from there (that's why it's written that way)
Hi Sorry that I posted in the XP forums, I thought that I had posted in Vista. Anyway, thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I've tried to go through those steps in your message but am getting stuck at 5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes) I add to the string so it looks like this: C:\Windows\system32>net stop slvc but when I press enter, the following message comes up underneath: "The software licensing service is not started. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3521" When I type that in, I get the message: "The *** service is not started" Any ideas to get round this? Many thanks Julia
That's OK in this case - what you are doing with that command is trying to stop the service - so if it's not started, it can't be stoppped, :) - ignore it and carry on to the next command.
Ok, I went through the other steps and still no joy... I can only use the computer in safe mode and it said function not available in safe mode when I put one of the commands in. I've also tried to run the MGADiag tool another 3 times since so that I could post the results but it won't copy them! Aargh! The message that comes up is "Failed to create output files, hr = 0x80070002. Please contact support". Do I need to give up yet? Thank you so much for your help! Julia
Hmm - there's no change there so something is amiss! I've pinged the MS specialist about the problem - hopefully he'll have some suggestions short of a repair install (which is difficult, since you have Recovery disk, rather than an MS disl)
The problem you experienced is simple - someone had alreay run the 'fix' previously, and therefore the file rename failed, because the 'new' flename already existed. Instead of 7)) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar use 7) ) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar2 and see what happens :) (if that also fails, try .bar3/.bar4 etc.)
(MODS - Please move to the Vista forums!) Your list of Mismatched files is a complete list of all files monitored by the system! This almost certainly means that your Licensing Store is badly corrupted. Please try the below steps to recreate the Store files. This may resolve the issue. 1) Open an Internet Browser window. 2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar. 3) Find the file CMD.exe 4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator' 5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes) 6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing 7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar 8) Type: cd %windir%\system32 9) Type: net start slsvc 10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient) 11) Restart your computer twice. 12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate. Once complete, please post back with a new MGADiag report
Hi Noel Thank you for getting back to me again. Right, I've done it in normal mode and when I typed the command 7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar it said that a file already existed by that name. I ran the rest of the commands after it but Windows still says that it is not genuine. It now says that "Windows must be reinstalled". It seems to be getting worse! File mistmatch keeps SL from running and requires boot ignoring signed drivers
When the latest Windows Update was executing it was cancelled before it completed. Now the only way the machine will boot is by f8 and picking disable driver signatures. Once in Windows, control panel and windows update do not work at all. Software licensing cannot be stared through services.msc. sfc /scannow runs but does not identify any corrupted files. The startup repair indicates system integrity check problem but cannot fix it. I have run chkdsk and it found no errors. For whatever reason there were no system checkpoints prior to this issue so I cannot do a system restore. I have also run the "Fix It" program referenced in a separate posting. Please go to control panel select ‘programs and features’, click on view installed updates and then uninstall the update that caused the issue. Regards, Manasa P-Microsoft Support.
Manasa, Unfortunately I still have my problem. I did not try to run Windows Update from Safe Mode. When the original problem occurred Windows Update was running while I was in normal mode. Since the Update was cancelled before it completed, I have not been able to boot in normal mode. If I try, I get a blue screen that flashes to quickly to write down the error code and then the machine reboots itself. The only way I can boot is to press f8 and pick "disable driver signature enforcement". That is how I have been getting into windows. In that mode Windows Update will not run and I cannot access the control panel. So I cannot check "Update History" to see the Update that was not successful. I have gone into msconfig and set the next boot to be in safe mode. I still have to hit f8 and select "disable driver signature enforcement" but then when it boots it will boot into safe mode. (If I try to pick safe mode from the boot menu I still get the blue screen and a reboot). Once in safe

Hello all, I'm have read the post at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/abnormally-high-cpu-usage-from-svchostexe-solved/eb38d25d-6bb2-47cd-80f2-5389c62337be and this hasn't really given me any answers to what is going on. I am skilled computer user and have done my due diligence. SFC produced no issues zero malware on the computer confirmed by 4 different programs including HitmanPro which is the final program used by MS This is a pretty fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1, 64 bit, fully updated automatically running MSSE. Anyone have some suggestions to throw at me?
In order to diagnose your problem we need to run Windows performance toolkit the instructions for which can be found in this wiki If you have any questions feel free to ask Please run the trace when you are experiencing the problem
Finally was home long enough to get this done. I work two jobs and have had to work on my laptop remotely from out of the house as I haven't had the time to deal with this. I decided to open the Resource Monitor to see if I was getting good results and I saw that it spiked the responsible svchost.exe CPU usage so I let it record for over 3 minutues to get an accurate capture of what was going on with my computer. It was quite interesting. Here is the file that I uploaded. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=c1e27c7afb49f9cc!107&authkey=!AODhbxU-REyW850&ithint=file%2czip Looking forward to learning more from this. Hi, Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. I would require more information to help you better. What is the KB article number of the update? I would suggest you to refer the below link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/what-is-svchost-exe#1TC=windows-7 Let us know the status of the issuer we will be glad to help you further.
Thanks kindly for this tool! I am away from the house for two days so I created the restore point now. Udpates will be done on Tuesday, but not before I am home. I'll create another restore point when I get home, install the program and run it when it is happening. Really appreciate the assistance! Cheers Lizy
Have you ever gotten an answer from Microsoft about this? I've been having this problem since a week or so. I'm thinking it started after one of the Microsoft updates. I don't really want to undo them unless I know which one might be the culprit.
Hi Rama, Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. I make sure to help you with the issue you are facing and assist you better. May I know the issue that you are facing with? Let us know if you have any queries related to Windows we will be glad to assist you. Thanks.
Mohammaed Is it possible that you can answer MY issue? I do appreciate that Sander is looking for assistance as well, but my problem has gone unanswered and I have provided so many details and it has been a month now with no support from MS whatsoever. Thanks for you time and consideration
checking in on this to see if anyone had feedback on the results I'm going to take another recording.. my system is now crashing when we are trying to use it :(
Main PID is 432, but I also see 160 as another one listed in the CPU as well. Hope this helps!
MS emailed me to prompt me to ask for more help or close it. Asking again to see if anyone had comments or other suggestions. Cheers
Offline files (CSC service) keeps crashing
Hello We had a Windows 2003 server and Windows XP and 7 Pro SP1 clients who use offline files perfectly (files stored on a NAS which is joined to the domain). We acquired a new server hardware with Windows 2008 R2 and promoted it and made it the DNS server. Syncing Offline Files on Windows XP is still working perfectly; however, the Windows 7 clients are facing CSC service crashes. The moment Sync Center starts syncing, multiple services crash at the same time. Offline files then become "enabled but not active". Looking at Event Viewer, we can find the following errors: What is really causing the problem!? Thank you
I have came across the faulty memory case, but I highly doubt it, because I can't have all my Windows 7 machines stopping at the same time due to memory issue!
I am fighting the same problem right now. I have researched this a bit and am leaning toward bad memory. But I would doubt this would be the case for you since it is happening on multiple machines. I have found two other cases where these same failures have been solved by running mem test and finding a bad stick. I'll post back if I get anywhere.

Systemoverview causes Explorer to crash
Hello, I recently changed my pc. I took my 2 hdds (2x 500gb) and my gpu (gtx 680) from a AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (8gb ram) computer to a Intel i7 2600k (16gb ram) computer. My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium OEM/ System Builder. (I bought it after building my old pc and reinstalled it already a few times from the DVD). I don't knowif this piece of information is usefull but my mainboard is a MSI USB3 UEFI mainboard. As I open the System overview (either from system control panel or computer properties) it crashes after ~10secs. It does not show my Windows activation status (activated right now but I had the same problem before it was activated again). Screenshot: http://puu.sh/2whMw I think this should be enough information. I'm looking forward to your replies. Robin
#bump Can anyone help me please? I think I added enough information.
Hi Robin, I would suggest you to follow the steps in the below links for partitioning your hard drive. Method 1: Follow the steps in the below link. Open the Performance troubleshooter: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/open-the-performance-troubleshooter Method 2: Windows Explorer may crash in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2515325 I hope the above information helps you.
Hi Robin, Thank you for your reply. I would suggest you to follow the steps in the below link and let us know the status of the issue. Windows Explorer crashes randomly in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2638018 Disclaimer: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry Hope this helps.
Thanks for your answer. Method 1: I'm not shure how the performance troubleshooter is called in german. The start menu showed up two results when I search for the german word for performance. http://puu.sh/2wOJZ http://puu.sh/2wOI9 is the first one. The second result crashes the same way as the system panel. Now I think the windows performance index is the problem because it might be associated with the performance troubleshooter, its on the system panel and it changed since the upgrade. (It also crashes when I open it directly) Method 2: The patch installer told me I already have this patch installed.
ie9 parent process exits with code 2 on certificate install
Hi I hope you can help with this problem I have a situation where during seemingly normal use I get an abnormal termination with exit code 2 from the parent IE9 process, and this in turn brings down all ie9 processes runing on my host. This occurs whenever I install a certificate using the import button on the internet options, content, certificates dialog. Basically on the last step of certificate import all the ie windows running on the host close. I attached a debugger to the parent process and got the trace below. Environment is win7 64bit using 32 bit ie9. If I first save the certificate somewhere in the file system, then right click on it to import it, everything works fine. 64 bit ie9 does not show the issue The thread 'Win32 Thread' (0x1fe8) has exited with code 2 (0x2). The program ' iexplore.exe: Native' has exited with code 2 (0x2).
Hi Sathish S V thanks for the reply. I have tried both methods and neither provides a fix. I had already uninstalled ie9 and received the same problem with ie8. I then reinstalle ie9 and still have he problem. system file check also revealed no issues I also did a full checkdisk scan of my c:\ drive and found no issues. Let me provide a bit more detail on the problem. The other way this problem manifests itself is when a ie instance offers up a certificate to install. when installing,I click "open" and follow the wizerd. All goes normal until the last step, and no confirmation popup window occurs that the certioficate was installed. ie does not crash in this case. the certificate does not get installed. So there are two strange behaviors with certificate install - the one I described initially and this one. My suspicion is that there is some tie to mcafee drive encryption or mcafee protection suite.- both of which are mandated by our IT department and difficult to remove for a
Karl I would contact your IT Department and see what they can do for you.
Hi Karl Dohm, Perform the following troubleshooting methods: Method 1: I would suggest you to uninstall Internet Explorer 9 and check how it works. Refer the following link to uninstall Internet Explorer 9. How do I install or uninstall Internet Explorer 9? Method 2: If that doesn’t work, I would suggest you to perform System File Check to fix the corrupted system files. Refer the following link to perform System File Check. How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7 Note: It may ask for windows DVD to fix and to enable SFC to make more than minor repairs. Some files saved on your computer might get deleted when fixing corrupted files.
I think I have a RAT (Remote Access Trojan)
I am running Windows 7 Professional 32 Bit. I was looking in System Information/Software Environment/Loaded modules and saw rasman, Remote Access Connection Manager and rasadhlp, Remote Access Auto-Dial Helper. I thought this was unusual because I have all remote services disabled on my system. I confirmed this, then ran System Internals' Process Explorer. I checked each instance of svchost.exe, and found several and hit "Show DLLs" and was shocked to find among them netjoin.dll (Domain join dll) My system is not joined to a domain. It is a standalone PC. I found rasadhlp (Remote Access Autodial Helper) and wtsapi32.dll (Windows Remote Desktop Session Host Server SDK APIs.) I also found atl.dll (ATL module for WIN XP (Unicode) usp10.dll (Uniscribe Unicode Script Processor) Checking other svchost.exe processes revealed rasapi32.dll (Remote Access API), rasdlg.dll (Remote Access Common Dialog API) , rasman.dll (Remote Access Connection Manager, although I have it disabled in Services)
Yes, it's the same computer. I have had it since January of 2012. Regarding the latest post about Terminal Services logs in Event Viewer, and why every user login is recorded in Event Viewer/Windows Logs/Applications and Service Logs/Microsoft/Windows/Terminal Services/Local Session Manager/Operational, I posted as instructed to TechNet and have not received a reply. The next post regarding Anonymous Logon over the network--I read on Microsoft TechNet that the Server Service records a null session/Anonymous network connection when it starts up. Since disabling the Server service, I have had no further Anonymous Logons. The BlueScreen/BugCheck events were traced to either a new Audio driver or to my Internet Security Software. The first two posts concerned a Mail Delivery Failed: Return To Sender message that I had received when I hadn't sent any mail/messages. I haven't had any of those since that post.
Hi, Did you look up any of these file names on Bing or Google? Per TechNet and the Microsoft Community, WTSapi32.dll, RasMan, wtsapi32.dll and Netjoin.dll are all legit Windows files. I'm guessing the same with the other files, which is probably why Security Essentials is not detecting them as Trojans. Hope this helps!

Your "plugin issues" might be fixed now but I don't like the sound of the above. When did the Kaspersky tech(s) connect remotely to the computer and how long did they work on it in all? I don't think the behavior you describe is a "Microsoft issue." It may have something to do with the Kaspersky techs' ministrations. Hi, You probably would notice if someone was remotely accessing your computer. Such as: screen locking up, cursor movement, malware or spyware notifications, advertisements, etc. It's doubtful that this is happening, as Security Essentials is not turning up any malware. You can check for remote sessions on a network by opening up Computer Management and going to Shared Folders. This would tell you what files have been opened and by who in a certain timeframe. If the lists in Sessions and Open Files are empty, this is good. Also, check to make sure you have no weird open ports or exceptions to the rules in Windows Firewall that you don't know about. Flags would be remote access software, like GoToMyPC or anything ending with VNC or NC. You could use a tool like SNORT to check the traffic that is coming from your computer, too. Also, in Task Manager, the only names showing up next to all the running services should be your user account, System, Network Service and Local Service. There ar

Yes, I looked them all up on Google. I realize that they're all legitimate Windows files. My question is why I have Remote Access services and Domain Join services (when I'm not joined to a domain) and Network Logon capabilities and Remote Desktop Server Host and Active Directory Domain services currently running on a standalone PC with all of these services disabled. Offline Files are running, when I have this disabled in Services. DLLs for Bitlocker Drive Encryption and LSA Extension for Encrypted File System are running when I have both of these features disabled in Services. Outlook 2010 crashes constantly
I have a computer with Windows 7 64 bit and Office 2010 connected to a Exchange 2003 server. During te day Outlook will crash a couple of times. I did an Office repair, created a new ost file, did chkdsk /r /f on the system, all the latest Microsoft updates are installed, disabled all unnecessary addins. Most of the time Outlook crashes when opening an attachement like a pdf or excel file. We have more Windows 7 computers with Office 2010 but these don't seem to have the same problem. Haven't tried safe mode yet, but I did an Office repair, this didn't help. Is there any way to find out why Outlook is crashing, maybe generate a dump file or something when it crahses?

Issues Installing Office 2016
i have to give up on my attempt to install. it looks like the issues are bigger than my companies security systems blocking something (something we ran into trying to push 2013). here is the story of how i spent my evening 09/24/2015. 1. tried to install with 2013 installed and ran into a streaming error. 2. tried to install again and the preparing for install screen popped up but soon disappeared and nothing else happens. 3. after a reboot it looks like it is going to start up again but hit a hard crash. find application logs below & report.wer attached (love the friendlyeventname=stopped working! ): application error: i tried one more time to install 2016 and received the first error so i gave up. i had similar luck with my first early attempt to install 2013 but the 2013 install works great now. i hope microsoft gets the 2016 installer working just as well in the near future. i appreciate any feedback. thanks!
Hi Zane, Could you share some updates with us? Thanks, Ran
Hi Zane, The reason why you see the Error code 30174-4 may be that your antivirus software, firewall, or proxy settings prevent you from installing Office 2016. Here are some things you can try to fix the problem. Please follow the steps listed in the article below to see the outcome. Error code 30174-4, 30125-4, 30038-4, or 30125-1011 when installing Office If the issue persists, could you please share a screenshot of the error message with us? Word 2016 crashes randomly with BEX error
Hi, I have a COM add-in developed for Word2010 with VS2013 targeting .Net framework 4.0. Add-in works fine in 2010 but the same add-in crashes randomly in 2016. So I have created "2016 Word Add-in template" in VS 2015 targeting .Net framework 4.6 and copy pasted the code from 2010 add-in template to 2016 add-in template. Still I am facing the crashing issue randomly, mostly on closing the document. The is happening in both 86-bit and 64-bit office versions and also for every one (approx 150 users). Could anyone please help me with your valuable inputs in solving this issue. Please let me know incase of more details. Thanks, Stanley

Hi, I would suggest you to place the computer in Clean Boot state and check if it makes any difference. Perform Clean Boot to see if any third party services are causing the problem. To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a " Clean Boot ." A Clean Boot helps eliminate software conflicts. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Note: After Clean Boot troubleshooting step, refer to “ How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with Clean Boot ” from the article. If issue persists, I would suggest you to contact application vendor for better assistance. https://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-maya/ Let us know the status of the issue.
Windows Explorer Crash (fault module is "thumbcache.dll")
Hello, I have been using Windows 8 Pro for a few months. I am facing an "explorer crash" since when I restricted deleting thumbnail cache for faster folder loading. No it does not persist. I've already stopped doing this and was looking for any way to use it without crash thanks for the tip.
"lsass.exe bad image the application or dll C:\windows\system32\ntdsapi.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette" is causing my desktop to fail to start.
How can I fix this and get back running if the nice folks at Sony do not include a boot disk with the computers they sell?
can not boot up
I run on Windows XP, when I try and sign on it appears Windows is starting up as the initial Windows XP frame come up but then it quickly goes to the following error message: lsass.exe - Bad Image The application or DLL c:\Windows\system 32\NTDSAPI.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette After that it will not let me go anywhere and I just get a blue Compaq screen. Is there a solution?
