Msdia80.dll/Msdia90.dll
I have found the file C:\Msdia80.dll and the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VC\Msdia90.dll, and I was wondering why I have two files apparently similar in two different locations. I have found some information here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927665, but it didn't help much. I was wondering if Msdia80.dll (C:\Msdia80.dll) is useless and I could therefore delete it, since I've got an Msdia90.dll in the correct location, according to the information found in the link above. Any help would be welcome.
Hi SteliosA, The msdia90.dll file is associated with “x64-based version of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package”. This update was released on 12 July 2009. The file msdia80.dll can be removed from C: as it might have been duplicated. For your reference, I’m adding a link that talks about msdia.dll file. Description of the security update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package: July 28, 2009: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973552 Hope this information is helpful. I know a lot of people tend to recommend Malwarebytes in addition to Windows Defender Security Center but I have never been able to understand why. Back in the old days having a separate Malware Checker made sense (at least, once Microsoft stopped supporting their OneCare option) but with the introduction of Windows Defender Security Center it really isn't necessary. And can interfere with the Security Center working as it is intended. There are a few articles everyone should read to better understand why I say this: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2017/01/23/introducing-windows-defender-security-center/#H1XBhutz8GHiHd4C.97 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4012986/windows-defender-track-your-device-performance-health and https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi Remember: Knowledge is Power!

.dll is the extension for drivers. Technically it stands for "Dynamic Link Library" (which means that saying dll library is like saying dynamic link library library) and it is pretty much synonymous with the .exe (or executable) extension. I would suggest you uninstall Malwarebytes and try running Windows Defender Antivirus (and Antimalware, btw) again. Malwarebytes tends to come with a trial subscription that will shut Defender off by default.

HI Marcelo, Mfc70.dll is the Visual C++ .net 2002 Runtime DLL. It usually comes up when you try to use some application that uses this DLL. When exactly are you getting the error? Do you remember making any particular changes to the system after which you started getting the error? If you are simply getting the error while opening up Visual C++ , you can try to uninstall and reinstall it back . Follow the link http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uninstall-change-program#uninstall-change-program=windows-7 on how to uninstall a program If you are getting the error while opening some application, then again either reinstalling the visual studio (If you have it installed ) might help .Or it might be that the application itself is corrupt .Since Every tool needs a Runtime. In this case, the MFC library DLL from Visual Studio 2002 is missing. The application developers must include this DLL in their setups .Also , you can verify this by running the application on some other system . A

How do I resolve the problem? The dciman32.dll file is the Dynamic Link Library for the Display Control Interface (DCI) Manager. Hi On SFC Scan Now First, scan your computer for Viruses and Malwares. If it is clean, or you found some "junk" and it not working after the cleaning.... Open an elevated command prompt, type in sfc /scannow and press Enter. It should scan the system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. More Information about SFC scan can be found in this document: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 ***Note, if this process shows too much mistakes and cannot correct them, you will have to reinstall Windows 7. DirectX, d3d9.ll & d3d10.dll and Windows Update is not working.. (Same problem?)
I've been having some problems with my computer lately.. The first thing I noticed was that I failed to run games and some application and I had this weird error "d3d9.dll missing" and something in style with.. "it could be fixed if you reinstalled the application", but it didn't and I kept getting the error, so I went to see if there even was a d3d9.dll or a d3d10.dll - but there wasn't.. So.. I tried to download em for the internet, but I later noticed that they were for DirectX and it therefor wasn't sure that I had the right ones.. So I went to try and update my DirectX - but failed. It said I already had an updated version of DirectX and it refused to install. I though, maybe I could uninstall directX, but I couldn't find where or how.. Then I though, maybe it's because of some weird windows update problem - so I went to check how many updated there were. I check it the day before that but suddenly there was 14 new updates that I hadn't installed yet (in one day 14 new updates!!!!
Hi exique, 1. Did you make any changes prior to the issue? 2. On which game and application do you get this error? DirectX run-time for End Users (also known as DirectX) is an extension to the Microsoft Windows operating system that provides a set of fast, low-level hardware controls that programmers can use to increase performance for Windows games and multimedia programs. DirectX errors on startup Windows7 > d3d9.dll and d3d8thk.dll
Hey guys, I've roamed the internet looking for a solution but can't find one. So here goes nothing. For a while now, I recieve several DirectX related errors when starting my computer. I run Windows7 and several programs that would start on startup fail to do so, because 1) d3d8thk.dll is missing (although I found it sitting snugly in the windows/system32 folder) 2) failed to load library d3d9.dll (also found this file in the windows/system32 folder) I tried installing DirectX again, but it says I already have the newest version and doesn't want to continue installing. I tried changing the registry values for direct x and ended up deleting the entire registry for it, both to no avail. I did notice loads of versions in the windows/system32 folder, such as d3d9x_24.dll through D3D9_43.dll - maybe that has something to do with it? Since I'm working mainly it's not too much of a hassle, it's just generally annoying to close 5 menu's stating these errors on startup. And I can't play the occ
The DirectX Web Installer does not recognise or overwrite corrupt DirectX files. It only fills in blanks. When an error specifies a DX file you can sometime delete, or move, them and then re-run the DX Web Installer and it will install new files. However, in the d3dx9.dll is not one that can be deleted, so reinstalling DX may be the better option. [ EDIT: I'm not sure if d3d8thk.dll comes with Win7 ? I believe it may get installed by older games, or software that use DX8. If you still get an error for this .dll after using the DirectX installer linked below, you may need to install that separately. There should be a installer on the games disk, or in a sub-folder in the games main install folder. Or, reinstall the game/software. ] The DirectX Redist (June 2010) installer will overwrite all DX9, 10 &11 files, fixing any corrupt files - Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - DirectX Redist (June 2010) - If you have not already, restore any changes you made in Registry before

Hello Akash, Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft community. I would like to know some information about the issue so that we could help you better. Have you recently made any hardware or software changes to your computer? I appreciate you for providing details about the issue and your efforts towards resolving the issue. Hi Yvonne_345, Follow the suggestions listed below for a possible fix: Method 1: Check the behavior by booting the computer in clean boot state. You may refer the article mentioned below: How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/system_file_checker.mspx?mfr=true Let us know if this helps.
nope - it didn't help. I have the same problem - why in the world can't someone fix this????
I really don't know why the Microsoft engaged Support Engineer "experts" seem to believe that booting in Safe Mode or Clean boot will replace a missing or corrupted DLL file - how does that work? I can also assure you with 100% certainty that running the System File Checker will not replace a missing or corrupted d3d9.dll file. That is not how sfc /scannow works, that is not what it does and that is not what it is for. And if you do not have a genuine bootable XP installation CD that is the same Service Pack as your installed SP (most people don't) SFC is going to complain - a lot. And that makes suggesting it even more of a wast of time. Suggesting sfc /scannow is akin to saying "I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it". If the Microsoft engaged Support Engineer "experts" would take a few minutes to recreate a problem and then try their own ideas to see if they work (and don't), either more problems would get solved faster, or people would waste less time on their ideas
D3D9 Errors (May also be related to other graphics card issues)
I just wanted to share my experience. I am running an MSI GT70 2OD-089US Dragon Edition 2 Extreme with Intel HD Graphics 4600 integrated and Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M dedicated graphics. When I first upgraded my system from Win8.1 to WinTP, Borderlands 2 wouldn't start with a D3D9 error about the desktop being locked. After various attempts to fix this error (including uninstalling all graphic drivers and letting Windows download the drivers itself) I was still having issues. Finally, I tried downgrading my Intel Graphics Driver to 15.33.22.64.3621 and Borderlands 2 loaded, smooth as ever. So in summation : If you're running a similar system as mine and having issues with D3D9 errors preventing games from starting, you might want to try downgrading your Intel Graphics Drivers to 15.33.22.64.3621 Thank you and good luck! Have a good one! P.S. This work-around doesn't fix the issue of the system always keeping the dedicated graphics card active, even when it's not needed.

Hello.I was trying to run a game but it said something about an d3d9 error.I search on the internet and found out some steps that i have to follow so I can fix this 1) Download d3d9.zip from our server 2) I would really like to fix this. Thanks a lot.
Hello Botirla Marius, Perform the following troubleshooting methods: Method 1: I would suggest you to place the computer in a clean boot state and troubleshoot the issue then check if it helps. You can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. Follow the steps from the link “ How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state ”, to place the computer in clean boot. Note: Follow the step “Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state”, from the link, to place the computer to normal start. Method 2: Perform System File Check to fix the corrupted system files and then check how it works. Refer the link “ How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows XP ” to perform System File Check. Note: It may ask for windows CD to fix and to enable SFC to make more than minor repairs.

The daredevil that I am, in spite of warnings not to download files from untrusted sites, I downloaded that d3d9.dll file and took a look at it. While the file passes basic checks for malicious software, I don't know what version it is or who/what it belongs to (I think DirextX) but it is version this: 4.09.00.0901 On my XP Pro Service Pack 3 system, my d3d9.dll file is version thus: 5.03.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-0845) So I don't think that is the correct file for Windows XP Service Pack3 and the d3d9.dll file is also not a registerable file anyway, to hence the error message (not all DLLs are or need to be registered). Of course we don't even know what version of XP you are running or anything else about your system. Why don't you sit tight and see what the Support Engineers who are engaged by Microsoft have to advise (I am not engaged by Microsoft).

Failed to create the d3d9 device
I'm at the end of my rope here. Every Directx9 application I have is creating this "Failed to create the d3d9 device" error on startup. I have tried everything; tried getting the webinstaller for DX9, tried installing the binaries manually, updated my Nvidia drivers, reinstalled said drivers two or three times, restarted between each step. I feel like at this point it'd be best to uninstall and reinstall directx from scratch, but apparently since this is built-in with windows 10, that can't be done. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix a broken Direct X install? Link to my DxDiag output: https://gist.github.com/aztectornado/5eeaf0a4498febb4338b4de91476d52c
Did you make any changes on the computer prior to this problem? No. Neither SW nor HW changes. I cannot rule out silent Windows updates though. What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far? When the fault happens, I noticed that it happens with many applications, therefore concluded that the fault is in the common part: video driver or DX9 layer. As mentioned earlier, steam games and video player (mpchc) are both impacted. Can you send us a screenshot of the pop up message that you are getting? See above. "fourth time I've been linked that package" Yes, you did mention Web Installer, and binaries, but I thought it best to cover the bases anyway . If the DX11 games are Ok I think it's safe to say the 1060 is OK as well. - What are some of the DX9 titles ? Retail disk do have issues not found on Steam, etc. downloads . The DX Redistrubitable (June 2010) will have overwritten all DX files to that date. The files ending in 41-43 - btw. If you are not already aware. You can delete the DX folder once the install is finalised . .

Games affected are from and not from steam; it seems to be global. Star wars Battlefront 2 was the first I played that I noticed it on, was debugging that for ages before I thought to test other games. Since then I also tried Sims 3, and The Bureau: XCOM declassified in DX9 mode, (which works properly in Dx11, which lets me know that it's not merely that I broke several game installs) each giving me (relatively) the same error that they failed to create a Dx3D device. Sims is the only one not managed by Steam, but was operating normally prior to this issue's arrival. Edit: These are just the ones I've tried recently. I checked and I would seem to have all of the dlls you mentioned, plus one or two SDK files as well, so it's likely not a missing file. I took the integrated off of Auto in bios, too, though it's still not showing up. I'll have to track down its drivers likely. Also disabled shadow cache, and enabled the two windows components you mentioned. No change. Strongly considering
The DirectX installer package (June 2010) overwrites all DX files (baring DX12), and should normally be all you need in the event of corrupt DX files. The download only unpacks the files to a folder of you choice. You have to then run the DXSETUP.exe that is in that folder to finalise the reinstall of DX (probably what you used, but... anyway.) Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - DirectX Redist (June 2010) If this has been done successfully, the error may be an indication your GTX1060 is faulting. - Try swapping over to the Intel HD530 Integrated Graphics [ EDIT: I don't see it on the report. Not supported by your motherboard, or not enabled in BIOS ? Driver not installed ? ] If there no DX9 error when running on Integrated graphics it's not looking good for the 1060. - Do you have a game that defaults to DirectX 10/11 (One with no DX9 option at all would be best) ? This could also help verify if there still an error in the DX files, or if the card is faulting. - Or try the
That marks the fourth time I've been linked that package, as well as the fourth time I extracted it to a new folder, and ran the setup. If it's really overwriting all the dlls and not skipping any, that only makes it more confusing that it's not working. Dx11 and Dx12 games and apps all work flawlessly, even now, it's only DX9 things that fail. I even tried closing literally every non-critical app running just to be doubly sure that something thought unrelated wasn't interfering, but still nothing. As for integrated, I'll root around in bios and see if they can be turned on tomorrow. I've not messed with them since I got this board a month ago; had a brand new apparently fully functioning GPU, why bother right? x_x
Same here... this started to pop up around weeks ago, never had any issues earlier. The error happens randomly . After reboot, it either works, or not, but if not, it stays broken until next reboot. Same if it works, it will work until next reboot. The fault causes error in mpc-hc (media player) and also in steam games. I am pretty sure this is either a dx 9 wrapper layer race condition bug or a video driver bug...
Gave up trying to fix it and just reinstalled windows since it was on my SSD; situation normal again after reinstalling drivers and such. Thanks for the help anyway though; I'm sure this will help anyone else who has this issue. :3 And to those of you coming after me with this issue-.... Godspeed, and good luck.

Hi, This error message may be due to some kind of problem with Microsoft DirectX. So let’s try running the Direct X Web Installer and let’s see if that resolves the issue. To download Direct X End User Runtime Web Installer, click here .
Windows 10, DirectX 9 apps/games all fail with d3d9.dll access violation
Since upgrading to Windows 10, I cannot use any app that requires DirectX 9. I have the most recent video drivers from nVidia and non dx9 games work fine. This makes a massive portion of my games library unplayable.
Thank you!!!! In my case, the app that was causing DX9 to "break" was MSI Afterburner.... holy $h1t!! This has been insanely persistent issue that caused me to roll back to Win 7 about 3 times now.
I downloaded and installed the DX Setup app you referenced. The installer reported that it was successful. I restarted my PC, and I still get the same d3d9.dll errors on *any* DX9 app. It turns out, however, I have found the problem. This problem has existed since Win7 was released. d3d9.dll (6.x-10.x) is brittle and poorly written apps can screw with it, causing subsequent dx9 apps to crash. In my case, it was one of the ASUS motherboard monitoring apps that came with my motherboard. Once this app was stopped (it ran fine), other dx9 apps started working perfectly. This was a constant problem for me because I had the monitoring app running on startup. Wow, thanks ;-)
I don't understand why I have received this why are you doing this and I run full scans 2x or more each weeks now you tell me I aa virus or something in back I don't understand please advise why I got your letter. in a language even I can understand Thank you
Hello Duoddreamer, Thanks for posting your question on Microsoft forms. I'm VERY VERY sorry for my extremly late reply. So I play a DirectX 9 game know as Midtown Madness 2 on my PC with no problems. I mean like what kind of games do you play which uses DirectX9? You may try a method I used for Midtown Madness 2:- 1. First GO to this Website:- https://fdossena.com/?p=wined3d/index.frag 2. Then Download either the Recommended version or The latest version. 3. After downloading the file it should be a zip file. 4. Extract it. 5. Now when you extract it you will find nearly 6-7 dll's. 6. Do not apologize for the late reply, I'm sure the forums are full of fluff. Though do apologize for not reading the other comments that have the solution, which is to not use the MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner tools without understanding that they can cause other DX9 apps to fail.
This is still an issue to this day. MSI afterburner running in the back ground does evil things to my Euro Truck Sim 2. In 32bit mode it would run great (D3D9). In 64 bit it just started crashing on startup. But in open GL mode in 64 bit work fine. Go figure.
its RivaTuner Statistic Server; you can fix the problem with just adding Handbrake.exe to the application profiler and set the detection level to None
THANK YOU!!! The app that caused me problems was a background app called Razer Cortex, it apparently "boosts" fps in games. Along with that, a bunch of other Razer apps that I do not need/use. Most likely, it was my cousin who uses his razer keyboard on my laptop from time to time and had to download these applications. Just wanted to leave this here for the record, in case somebody had something similar. Just look through anything that may utilize directX9 on your task manager. :)
Hello there, You will need to download and install this package: DirectX End User Runtimes (dated 2010): URL: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 Install and confirm all is working. Notes: Some game installers (especially on Steam) may fail to install and update their required runtimes on first launch in a newly upgraded Windows Operating system. One of these dependencies is DirectX runtimes.

update your computer and install latest version of Directx may fix the problem. IF not then write the d3dx_9.dll download in google you will get download link.download this dll and add to the system registry by left click on it(extract .rar if it is in .rar file).

InPageCoFire error says d3d9.dll is damaged. how to fix it?
I have recently been getting InPageCoFire error whenever i run League of Legends. It says that d3d9.dll is damaged. I tried running scanfix on it, but it couldn't find any problems in it. I understand d3d9.dll is a Directx file. I guessed that reinstalling directx would help, but the directx web isntaller says that i have a "newer or equivalent version" so installation is not needed. I couldn't find any proper, free, way to uninstall Directx either. so how to fix this problem? Btw, I have reinstalled League of Legends, yet the problem persists. I get the same error when I run GOM player, so there really must be something wrong with d3d9.dll
Hi MusaAli, Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for posting the question. I understand that you get InPageCoFire error while trying to run League of Legends. Let me help you with the issue. 1.What is the make and model of the computer? 2.Which security software is installed? 3.Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue? In order to troubleshoot this issue, let us try these methods: Method 1. Boot the computer in clean boot state and check the status. A clean boot helps to verify if any third party application service or startup item is causing this issue. How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7, Windows 8 : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow steps under “ How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot ” in the article to boot to normal startup. Method 2. I would suggest you to perform SFC scan and check if that helps. T
Thanks! it works. Well... the other softwares using d3d9.dll are working now. But, LoL still not working, but will make a different question for that issue :) thanks again!
"but the directx web isntaller says that i have a "newer or equivalent version" The Web Installer does not overwrite existing files, so will not fix a corrupt file. The full Redist (2010) installer should overwrite all the DX files though. The 'proper free way' below - Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - DirectX Redist (June 2010) btw - A quick way to fix a corrupt DX file when an error points to a specific file is to delete (or move to desktop as backup) that file from System32 (and SysWOW64 with 64bit Win7) and run the Web Installer to replace it with a new file. This method will not work with the d3d9.dll, (without overriding the 'Trusted Installer') but will work with the 'numbered' files such as d3dx9_24 , etc.
D3D9.dll error.
Just update Windows 10 on September 9, 2016. Since then I am not able to play League of Legends. I am getting a D3D9.dll error. After running SFC scannow command, it indicates that there are two .dll corrupted and cannot be repair. (see below) I have an ASUS i7-4790 3.6GHz and Geforce GTX 750 driver version is up to date 372.70. I'm not sure if sfcscannow fixes DirectX file corruption ? In the event of a corrupt DX files or files reinstalling DirectX using the DirectX Redist (June 2010) installer package will replace any corrupt DX files (yes... old, but it has all DX files except DX12) Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - DirectX Redist (June 2010) - The D3D9.dll file cannot be deleted as can some of the other DX files such as d3dx9_24.dll. When an error specifies a file that can be deleted you can delete that file from both System32 and sysWOW64 and run the DirectX Web Installer , and it will replace the 'missing' file with a new one. This method is a bit quicker than a full reinstall of DX ( the Web installer does not overwrite existing files as does the full installer package). [SOLVED] Windows 7 64 bit crashes constantly with games - APPCRASH - Fault Module Name: d3d9.dll
Greetings, I had Vista 64 and now upgraded to Windows 7 64bit. 80% of my games crash on load. I am still having this problem and I am not using EVGA precision. Clean boot didn't help either. I disabled EVERYthing except core Microsoft services that cannot be disabled, and the problem still happens. I also tried reinstalling DX9 but couldn't because Windows 7 already comes with DX11, which can't be uninstalled. This is still in d3d9.dll appcrash c0000005 Colonization.exe 1.0.0.1 49a88196 D3D9.DLL 6.1.7600.16385 4a5bd9a9 c0000005 0018e6f1 928 01caf0031ed0a600 C:\Program Files (x86)\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Colonization\Colonization.exe C:\Windows\system32\D3D9.DLL 6e573605-5bf6-11df-8d38-001d7da2e2ba
Try reinstalling DirectX, since the DLL file it's pointing to is replated to directx. The file may have gotten corrupted or damaged somehow.
Greetings, I did an upgraded install, it was not a clean install, I did not format the drive etc.... I'll try those steps out, thankyou.
I've had 64 problems to, been told (by nVidia) it has to do with the nVidia drivers, I was using a GTX8800
This DX install might be the solution, downloading it now. http://news.softpedia.com/news/Download-New-Windows-7-Direct3D-11-DirectX-11-Release-107559.shtml Seems like DX9 games die and crash in Windows 7.
Hello, I think that I have found the answer to every ones problems with Windows 7 64 bit crashing. I have battled the crashes for a year and swapped out all kinds of hardware-video cards, reinstalled windows several times and made sure all my drivers were up to date. None of that fixed the issue. What FIXED my crashes is adding 2g more memory. I had 4g of ram and windows 7 would crash playing game. After upgrading my memory from 4 to 6g my computer has been ROCK solid. Has not crash in over 2 weeks. I talked to a software expert were I worked and he told me that 64bit will use more memory then the 32 bit. I REALLY believe that this is the fix for most people based on all the research I have done.
No, nothing changed. This sucks.
Eriksz, When you upgraded to Windows 7 did you perform a normal install or did you do a custom (clean) install? Here is a couple things to try. Perform a Clean Boot to just make sure nothing else is getting in the way. Create a new user and install one of the games on that user and test. Run the System File Checker and Disk Error Check Mike - Microsoft Answers Support Engineer Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.
Ya I have tried, but no luck. If I go to the DX website, it tells me I have the latest DX. I tried to install the DX9 install, the install lasted 1 second and said it was complete.
Well well well.. Mike, thankyou for pointing in the right direction with regards to trouble shooting this. It turns out, after doing a clean boot, it wasn't any of the services but one of the startup items . After disbaling groups of startup applications and restarting narrowed it down. EVGA Precision and it's Wrappers cause DirectX9 to fail on windows 7. Well at least on my installation. Now everything works, i.e. all DX9 games. Thanks Mike.

Downloading and reinstalling a DirectX package won't help you in this special case because d3d9.dll is a Windows 7 core file (an integral part of Windows 7). You're better adviced with any kind of system repair (restore from a "good" restore point, from a system backup, using system repair options - restart with typing F8 before Windows starts - or using OEM recovery features).
Then, I actually manually copied the d3d9.dll file from the download and replaced the current d3d9.dll file, but that didn't help either. >So what is the best way to proceed? Original Title: Direct X issues in XP Home. My internet application began to run slowly, and I was receiving error messages about D3D9. I first ran Registry Mechanic to fix any registry problems. After searching for solutions, I arrived at Microsoft with instructions to reinstall Direct X. I followed the steps to delete the DirectX folder from the registry, restarted the computer, and downloaded the installer from the Microsoft site. When I run the.exe file, I get an error message that "An internal error occurred", the install failed and to check my logs. I have run Disk Cleanup on the C: drive and have run a disk check. I have also tried to install through Safe Mode with the same results. Any suggestions?

Hi, Following a recent power outage, I'm seeing and error message about d3d9.dll missing. Thanks. sfc ran with errors so I had to run DISM then when I re-ran sfc for a second time it completed successfully. After a reboot the error was no longer seen Thanks for your help
Give these a try: Method 1: I would suggest to re-register the .dll’s: 1. Click on Start, then Run. 2. Now all you have to do to register a DLL file is to type in the regsvr32 command, followed by the path of the DLL file. : regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\D3D9.dll 3. Hit OK. Method 2: If the issue does not resolve run system file checker. Sometimes this kind of unexpected behavior shown by Windows due to some missing or corrupt important system files. I would suggest you to rum Microsoft Safety Scanner SFC /SCANNOW to scan the system integration and fix system file corruption (if any). The sfc /scannow (System File Checker) command scans all protected system files, and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. Use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us Method 3: If the system file checker unable to repair corrupt files try to follow clean boot process and check the issue. You should run SFC scan to fix .dll error. System file check (SFC) is a utility built into the Operating System that will check for system file corruption. The sfc /scannow command (System File Check) scans the integrity of all protected operating system files and replaces incorrect, corrupted, changed, or damaged versions with the correct versions where possible. When it cannot repair the damage, DISM should be run to fix as many errors as possible. 1. To Run SFC (Time required - 5 to 15 minutes) - Type cmd in Windows Start Search box Right click on cmd Run As Administrator Type or copy / paste sfc /scannow and hit Enter When you have finished it will say one of three things a. Windows did not find any integrity violations (a good thing) b. Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and repaired them (a good thing) c. Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some (or all) of them (not a good thing - DISM needs to be run) (It may also give the message

try running DISM: ************ After ChkDsk is done go back to the admin prompt and run following commands, one at a time to Repair The Installed Windows Image this command checks whether the image has been flagged as corrupted by a failed process and whether the corruption can be repaired: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth this command scans the installed windows for component store corruption: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth this command performs Window repair operations automatically: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth DISM creates a log file (%windir%/Logs/CBS/CBS.log) that captures any issues that the tool found or fixed. %windir% is the folder in which Windows is installed. Hi, Elton. Try installing the DirectX End-User Runtime from the link below. This will reinstall DX9. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/detail... Note that the installer will unpack the files to a location of your choice, then you'll need to run the DXSETP.exe file.
Try these first to see if they work: Open Start, type: CMD Right click CMD Click Run as administrator Type in at the prompt OR Copy and Paste these one at a time : (Hit enter after each) Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth Also run the System File Checker utility: Open Start, type: CMD Right click CMD Click Run as administrator At the Command Prompt, type: sfc/scannow This will check for any integrity violations Restart your system If that does not work, perform a repair upgrade: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/wiki...
The commands ran successfully, but the log file is so full of unintelligible stuff that it is impractical to pursue due to the sheer size of the file.

Mohd Monis, First thing I would suggest is getting your PC current with Windows Updates. Service Pack 3 was released in April 08. If you have not done any updates or limited updates since then, you should get your system updated. If you are not prompted for any DirectX updates then you can go to this link and download the latest DirectX 9 for your system.
A way to restore d3d9.dll file...?
About a week ago, my brother was editing some files around on my computer trying to play a game that wouldn't work because it was lagging (I don't know if it was because my new laptop has Windows 10 or something else). Anyway, it seems he accidentally messed up some of the files. I think it was d3d9.dll in the System32 folder. Ever since then, I've had trouble with some of my programs. I can't use iTunes anymore (It always gives me an error message when I start it up). And some of the games I use to play won't function. They'll start up, but all I get is a black screen. The sound plays, but I don't see images or anything. So, is there a way to get the d3d9.dll file working again. I've tried using System Restore, but it didn't do anything but waste my time, and I tried downloading it from various sites, but it didn't do anything. Any help anyone could give would be appreciated.
Solved my problem easily. Can listen to music on Itunes again, and play my video games. Thank you very much for your help.
System 32 files are Win OS files,if missing/corrupt,open cmd, type: Sfc /Scannow once its thru, type: CHKDSK C: /F agree to restart, type: EXIT restart pc.The repairs are made on pc restart
i started to receive d3d9.dll error messages on startup, after i had run a CHKDSK on a startup. In going into the System 32 files, d3d9.dll was present, but had a size of ZERO. The system will not let me remove it, nor replace it with copies of d3d9.dll from other sources. Says i need to have permission from "Trusted Installer", whatever that may be, even though i am doing all of this as the system administrator. I attempted the resolution above (SFC/Scannow followed by CHKDSK C:/F) but this had no effect. Still getting the error message Only thing I know for sure that won't work are snipping tool, and the base collection of MS Games. I'd show the error messages, but no snip tool :) Any advice??
D3d9.dll makes my games run in the background processes
for some reason whenever I want to play gta san andreas or fallout 3 with a enb (lighting mod that makes the game look better) it makes my game start in the background processes I removed the d3d9.dll and the game ran normally again but of course the enb doesn't work without the dll, anyone have the same problem and know a solution?
Hi Anar. I'm Greg, a volunteer and eight year Windows MVP who will try to help you. Have you tried updating your Display driver to the very latest on the PC or adapter's Support Downloads webpage? Make sure you have the highest Screen Resolution at Settings>System>Display. Try reinstalling the game. Uninstall, restart, reinstall. If that doesn't help then go over this Checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki... But remember that a factory or Upgrade install are inferior installs that most enthusiasts would never run in the first place because they'd expect endless issues. Most prefer to do the gold standard Clean install from this link which has no reported issues from hundreds of thousands of users: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki... There is also an automated Windows 10 Refresh which reinstalls Windows while leaving out the factory bloatware
D3D9.dll missing from computer
Recently I have started getting a notice when my computer starts up which says "Failed to load library 'd3d9.dll", This particular message is referring to when I try to launch Skype. However I also cannot launch a game (Payday 2) in steam which also claims it cannot start since "d3d9.dll is missing from the computer". I have tried re-installing both Skype and Payday 2, to no avail. I have run dxdiag which as far as i can tell didn't bring up any issues, I updated my NVIDIA geforce to the latest version and check my version of directx was up to date, (it was) once again non of this has fixed my issue. I'd appreciate any help with this. [edit] I should also mention that two updates in windows update cannot install. Hello Paul, Thank you for keeping us updated on the issue. Did you make any software or hardware changes prior to the issue? I would suggest you to try the following steps: A missing or corrupt .dll file can be caused by any of the below possibilities. Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance, we’ll be glad to assist you. Thank you.
Thank you for your reply, No I do not have anything like that and I also always update through Nvidia experience. I have updated my problem and apologize in advance if the new information would have shed more light on my issue had it been included earlier.

Not without full details of what is, or is not happening. Your title tells us as much as the image does. Also include the name of the game, and your system specifications, including brand and model graphics processor. Meanwhile, try running the DirectX Web Installer to verify your Windows has all DirectX files installed This may get you out of trouble... Download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Official Microsoft Download Center [ EDIT: When a DX file has been corrupted you may need to reinstall DX. The Web Installer above only installs 'missing' files. To reinstall DX use the DX Redist (June 2010) below. Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - DirectX Redist (June 2010) Note - The installer download unpacks files to a location of your choice. You then open the folder and find the DXSETP.exe and run that to reinstall DirectX. Once the reinstall is complete you can delete the folder the files were unpacked to. ] .

Ran Online should be able to run on Win10, and it has low enough system requirements that it should be able to run on either of your graphics processors. - Are there any patches or updates available from the developers site that you have not installed yet ? - The drivers that are currently installed on your machine shouldn't be a problem with a game of this vintage. However, if HP has any newer Win10 drivers for your HP Notebook installing them would be advisable. - If the game is installed from a disk there could be an issue with the copy protection system. - If you have not tried using a Compatibility option, XP sp2 may work. Using Win 98 could also help, as this forces the cpu to use only one core with the game. This is not often helpful with a game that was first released in '04 or later though. - I am not familiar with this game, but you should be able to get help on the Ran Online forums. .

Failed to load library 'd3d9.dll'
I know this has been asked many times before but all the threads I find are rather old and none of the solutions provided have worked for me. There has been something wrong with my DirectX for a few days. When I want to start Skype I get the error message "Failed to load library 'd3d9.dll'". When I want to launch the game Eve Online I only get a User Account Control prompt asking for permission for "Installer for Microsoft DirectX D3DX components for windows" and an empty cmd.exe that disappears after a few seconds. (I think the cmd.exe is normal for the Eve Online launcher but it's supposed to do something that has something to do with DirectX) I also noticed that my Windows Media Player is playing the audio of a video now. I have already tried updating my DirectX but it just keeps saying that I already have the latest version. Why is there no option to just reinstall DirectX? I have already uninstalled and installed my graphics card driver but it didn't change anything. And of cours

Quicken 2016 crashes when opening - tech says d3d9.dll error
I recently reinstalled Quicken Home and Business 2016 in Windows 10. I installed the latest Quicken patch, but upon opening the application I receive an Unknow-Unexpected Error. This occurs on the Welcome to Quicken screen where I would identify if I am a new or upgrading user. When I sent the Error Report to Quicken they told me it was a d3d9.dll error. I have no idea how that dll impacts Quicken or what steps I need to take to address this. I need to know if this is indeed a Windows 10 issue, and, if so, what to do about it. Here is the Error Report cut and pasted from Quicken 2016 >.. Hello Bruce, Thank you for letting us know about this. Please let us know if the issue is resolved. Reply us if you need any further assistance with windows. We will be glad to help. Hello, I request you to uninstall and reinstall Quicken Home and check if this helps. I hope this helps you. If you have any further queries, feel free to contact us. We will be happy to help you. Thank you. The issue is resolved. Thanks. Is .net framework 4 installed? Looks like it may need it / requires it I think you can use this to remove Quicken as well Just uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work. I had to manually delete all instances of Quicken that remained after the reinstall. I had missed a folder under roaming that prevented the reinstall from working. Thanks for responding. d3d9.dll_unloaded Hello, All of a sudden I'm getting a lot of games that are crashing upon exiting the games. Every time that this happens I checked the details for it and it tells me that the following is the cause: Problem Event Name: BEX Application Name: It doesn't happen every single time on every single game but it does happen on quite a few different games. So, if anyone could tell me what it is that I need to do that can correct this I'd sure appreciate it. I guess I should be thankful that it is only upon exiting games that they crash and not while playing them Well if anybody wants to offer real help... And it makes them feel better about it, here is another one: Problem Event Name: BEX Application Name: BridgeConstructor.exe Edit: actually ther is a lot on " d3d9.dll_unloaded" as long as i use quotes around it so i'm likely to find what the problem is on google. Well, I guess it's a good thing that nobody here pre-judges without actually knowing situations, such as getting a preview/press copy to create YouTube video previews. In any event this is happening on quite a few games, legitimate purchase games, it is even happening on flight simulator X as well as about 15 video games on my 250+ game steam account. The error messages says - Application Name: RimWorld232Win.exe I Google RimWorld232Win and the full first page yields nothing but torrents - https://www.google.com.au/#q=+RimWorld232Win Fault Module Name: d3d9.dll_unloaded is not found in Windows or MS Direct X. If there is only one game from a torrent , that may be all it takes. Anyway - The crashing should still nothing to worry about, unless it starts to affect other things. I have a handful of games that do the same occasionally. Most commonly with Oblivion. If the issues seems to be spreading you still may want to run a full system scan with your, AV and then again with Malware Bytes. Pre judging, maybe. There have only been three people previously this week alone needing help with pirate games. One was helped by an official MS employee, so it's cool.... . "And if i wanted to look hard enough" That's the point. I didn't look hard at all. That page is what came up first, so it's contains the most commonly linked sites for that search (theoretically). If Bridge Constructor uses a modified d3d9_.dll, I assume it would normally be in the games folder in your Steam Apps\ Common folders. If it is missing, or corrupt, then reinstalling the game may fix the issue, or you may be able to download a new copy to put in the games install folder with the games .exe. Interesting, this d3d9.dll_unloaded. I would guess the unloaded part is there just to indicate the file is modified from the MS version, as it comes after the extension. It would be interesting to know what it's about. EDIT: I see you have edited while I was typing. MSE may not be enough. You really should run a scan with Malware Bytes (the most commonly suggested software to cross check with). It never hurts to double check if you start having problems after downloading anything fro Hello, welcome to the Official Monopoly$oft game forums. The only forums I know that don't ban people for helping game pirates (just be careful not to discuss Windows Piracy as that would be frowned upon). The crashing when closing a game will sometimes happen with legitimate versions too, but with games from RimWorld232 it may just be part of the parcel, as d3d9.dll_unloaded is not a file that would be found on a non Pirates machine. I wouldn't worry about it... Well, not unless a malware/virus came with the package. What means error error d3d9.dll CSSEShaderCode::ProcessPositionAndColors in dx9 VC2012++ win 8 ? The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\d3d9.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette. so what do I do to fix it? Problems with DirectX and d3d9.dll Hey there, I am Mannie, and I seem to be having a little bit of issue with the d3d9.dll library in Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I play TESV: Skyrim on the PC, and I like to apply some graphical mods to the game, and I believe, that one of those mods edited the default d3d9.dll library located in %windir%/System32. Before long, I started getting this error whenever I started Skyrim, this happened before the game full launched and entered fullscreen mode, and the error didn't seem to have change my game's performance or produce any issues with anything. So, being a natural error hater, I tried to fix this. I ran the "sfc /scannow" command, but nothing was fixed (errors, however, WERE detected), I tried downloading the corrupt library from third party websites, but whenever I tried registering them using "regsvr32 d3d9.dll" I would get this error . I encountered a similar error upon trying to "unregister" the library using "regsvr32 -u d3d9.dll" however, instead of "DllRegisterServer," the I'm having this issue but only with Dead island: Riptide. Any other game I play I don't get this error. Everything is up to date so there is nothing to 'update' and I even reloaded Windows on a fresh install. Windows 7 sucks. If XP supported dierctx 11 i'd go back. Can you try this link.. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/appcrash-error-when-playing-some-games/dfc6f06c-a75f-4306-ac85-35dbbf8485a9?tm=1323661425093 No, that question/answer does not necessarily pertain with my problem. First of all, my games didn't crash, neither have I encountered an "appcrash." Also, as I stated earlier, I can't seem to update or install DirectX, and my drivers are all fully up-to-date. Is Skype for Business (Lync) API call to SfmDxGetSwapChainStats of d3d9.dll legal? Environment: Virtualbox 5.1.28 (current at the time of asking) with as Win10 Guest, GuestAdditions, & Office 365. Trying to start Lync ("Skype for Business") then dies with a non-locatable call to SfmDxGetSwapChainStats in d3d9.dll. See problem thread in oracle forum: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=80622&p=403618#p403618 (The issue can be worked around by waiving 3d acceleration. Which is unsatisfying.) The claim therein is, that the attempted call is not actually conform with the API. Now, I'm not an expert, but naively searching for the above string on a site like this: https://msdn.microsoft.com/de-de/library/windows/desktop/bb174300(v=vs.85).aspx does not yield any result. So my question is: Is the claim actually accurate, that Lync should not be doing this call in the first place? (And if so, where is the correct place to make fun of the Developers, not using their in-house API's correctly, so they feel incentivized to fix it?) Hi Simon, I have done much research but got little information regarding this in Office 365 (Skype for Business online). My understanding is that it should involve in some development features. Thus, I suggest you contact the MSDN forum for dedicated help. This forum mainly focuses on Office 365 for Business online services. We appreciate your understanding. Hi TechGuru, That's correct: the .dll is now inoperable and another one has not been substituted. You may find that if you install software that needs it, then the new .dll will appear and hopefully you won't get that error. You may have in time past installed software that has since been removed, thereby leaving the .dll behind and so causing you problems. Chris Hi TechGuru, It could well be that a Windows update made it inoperable; strange things occur with some of these updates. So, have you gone back to the Sim directory to see what the situation is with the d3d9.dll file? Is the old one still there or has a new one mysteriously come in? Chris Shariq, I just had this same problem on my Windows 10 computer and spend several hours researching different issues. I think I found a solution. It seems there is a problem between the d3d9.dll file inside the FSX install, and the actual directx that is installed with windows 10. To fix, I just followed a hunch and renamed the d3d9.dll located in the games install directory. In my case I just appended an underscore to the extension like this: "d3d9.dll_" Your file is located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\d3d9.dll Try renaming and let me know if it fixes your issue. Best, -Yuriy. Chris, The file is still there in its renamed state. I just played around with renaming it back = crash of app and a generation of event viewer entry follows: Faulting application name: fsx.exe, version: 10.0.62615.0, time stamp: 0x559f9a9a Faulting module name: d3d9.dll, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x57547d4e Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x00117885 Faulting process id: 0x2f68 Faulting application start time: 0x01d3568b578db120 Faulting application path: F:\Games\Steam_SSD_Library\steamapps\common\FSX\fsx.exe Faulting module path: F:\Games\Steam_SSD_Library\steamapps\common\FSX\d3d9.dll Report Id: f309d5c9-0cf4-45d1-bdc1-d1803d83155c Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: After renaming the extension back to .dll_ the issue goes away. This d3d9.dll most often comes up if you have SweetFX or ENBSeries modules installed. Possibly, by following TechGuru's fix by modifying the file extension (which effectively disables the .dll from working), may solve your problem. But if you have the above-mentioned modules installed, the one using that .dll will no longer work. Chriso, Good point on the fact that renaming the dll file might break some add-on. Whats interesting though, is - I have a clean non-modified install of FSX:SE that i just downloaded off steam. The game would not launch! However, it used to work about 5-6 months ago. After renaming the file, it launched like a champ. Not sure what changed - but my guess it something to do with Microsoft's updates to Win10. I ended up taking it to a local repair place to get it fixed. I now wish I had persevered with your information however as it has caused even more problems which I won't bore you with but I was not a happy chappy yesterday! Now having to reinstall afresh - fortunately I had the original install disks for Win 7 and the Asus drivers. I should get it back today. Thanks again. Hi, Reboot and begin tapping F8 key Select Safe Mode with Networking Download the following and run a full scan to rule out malware http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx When finished reboot Run System File Checker Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us Uninstall graphics driver in Device Manager Windows will reload the driver Go to manufacturer's website and look for updated driver Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Diagnosing-basic-problems-with-DirectX Test hard drive and look for faulty ram Went into safe mode as suggested - funnily enough Skype opened without a problem when I clicked on it. Tried to use IE to download the scanner but it refused and IE kept jamming up so had to do it with Chrome. No viruses etc. I had already run System file checker and Direct X and came up with - "Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in CBS.Log windir Logs CBS.log" - (forward slashes missing). However even copy and pasting the command from MSN support page I was unable to find the CBS log file or copy to Sfc details........ Even if I could I think manually repairing and finding a known good copy is probably beyond me. Looks like I need to go to my friendly repair shop.......... Thanks anyhow This is the command needed to open CBS Log Start Orb > type cmd in the searchbox Right-click cmd in the results above > click Run as administrator At the prompt type notepad c:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log then press enter What is the computer make/model? E.g. to tell whether those two modules mentioned in the OP are current? I only have W8 and can't tell from the KB articles what would be valid now. I really miss the DLL Help Database. Maybe the MBSA would help with that but I haven't got it installed in my new Surface either. FWIW in W8.1.1 I do see an update to d3d9.dll so presumably whatever that was would have updated W7 too? FileVersion: 6.3.9600.16404 (winblue_gdr.130913-2141) My only other idea was going to be to see what dxdiag.exe shows. But again I can't remember exactly what we might see in there in W7 about d3d9.dll. Carry on. ; ) TIA Robert --- How do i fix D3D9.dll error? Hello, I don't understand how to fix this error, i have literally done everything to try and fix it but no luck. -I have looked at almost every webpage to try and find a solution but nothing. -I have the latest DirectX update, it just says ' i have the latest or equivalent'. -i have tried uninstalling and re-installing all the software that has been affected by it, including, Skype, itunes, windows media player, league of legends, my windows webcam, and there's probably more. I have even phoned an IT Tech to try and sort it, but he had no idea.... so i don't know what to do. My PC is just over a month old so it can be the age or the components. I would try to uninstall DirectX but it's part of the OS, and my Windows 7 is a legit copy so i have no idea.. Well, i tried but still nothing. Maybe my copy of Win 7 is faulty or something... hmm this is annoying :( Hello Jacques, I would suggest that, you may try doing an In-place Upgrade it won’t uninstall your programs only thing you will have to do is check for Windows Updates. Always take precautions and back up any important files that you want saved as sometimes things can get corrupted. Hope that helps some. Follow the steps below this will show you how to perform an In-place Upgrade. An in-place upgrade is the final alternative before you have to reinstall the operating system. Note that it takes the same amount of time to do the upgrade as to reinstall the operating system. Also, some of your customized Windows settings may be lost through this process. How to perform a repair installation of Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Hope this information was helpful. Thank you. DirectX errors can be misleading. They don't always pertain to the DX files themselves and can result from hardware not meeting a games requirements, a bug in the game, not having the current audio driver installed, or hardware faults. - If you have not updated the motherboard chipset drivers that may help. In the end I just resulted in getting an exchange for my PC I don't know whether this error is rare or not, but it needs to be looked at by Microsoft and/or DirectX, because I guess there are other people of whom have the same problem as me, and maybe they cannot get a refund or exchange for their PC. I may have been corrupted somehow. While you can delete many of the d3d_xx.,dll's you cannot delete the d3d9_.dll, ( Note that get an error message that specifies an DirectX file that can be deleted you can delete the file and the Web Installer will replace the now 'missing' file with a new one. This should normally be quicker than reinstalling the whole of DX ) so you may want to try running the full DX Redist installer I linked above. If after reinstalling DX with the Redist you still get the same error we need to look elsewhere for the source of your problem. - Note that the Redist installer first unpacks the DX files into a folder of your choice. You then need to locate the DXSETUP.exe to reinstall DirectX. After reinstalling you can delete the folder the files were unpacked to.
