According to a quick Google you have a trojan that belongs to the family of information stealers. Clean up your computer immediately. Go through these general malware removal steps systematically: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be aware that not all local shops are skilled at removing malware and even if they are, your computer may be so infested that Windows will need to be clean-installed. If possible, have all your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop. MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

.Exe issues
When I launch a program(say it's SWTOR or Steam or DFO), the option to click 'yes' has disappeared making me unable to launch any .exe files. This is a huge issue as I am subscribed to SWTOR and I intend to be able to play every day for the month that I paid for. It is also telling me to enter an administrator username and password, but there neither a pop-up to log in or a place to input the information it's asking for. There is literally zero I have found on google or any other source for technical support answers, and it seems that no one else has experienced this issue. Thanks ahead of time. ***Post moved by the moderator to the appropriate forum category.***
1 "the option to click 'yes' has disappeared" - What option? Please post a screenshot. 2 "It is also telling me to enter an administrator username and password" What is telling you? Please post a screenshot. Denis
Hi Ian, We would like to further clarify your concern about the dialogue box where you can choose yes or no that is missing. Since this could be caused by a recent update or corrupted files in the computer. For us to resolve your concern, kindly answers the questions below: Would you be able to provide a sample screenshot of the option that disappeared? Are you pertaining to the "User Account Control" prompt? When you attempted to launch any programs, were there any error messages that showed up? When changes are going to be made to your computer that require administrator-level permission, "User Account Control " notifies you and gives you the chance to approve the changes. We suggest that you verify that the User Account Control settings on you computer is not turned off. You can follow the steps to check the settings through this link . Refer to the section labeled Make sure User Account Control (UAC) is turned on. We look forward to your response to our queries.
sndvol32.exe
My sndvol32.exe file is missing, is there any other way to install it other that downloading it off of my windows xp cd, as I have lost that. I don't really have anybody I can borrow one from. Can I get a download free online somewhere?
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally got it to work again! :)

April 16 (attach) The above is Not a Fix. Just another Problem, even with the Original Windows CD... Great package Windows OS. eh ? Lots of Problems, Lots of venting in forums - But No Fixes.... I have been a Customer since Windows First rolled out, 3.1 was garbage 98 was OK, ME was No Good, 2000 not much better, XP was good (Just do not re install it), Vista was a big Nightmare. I rolled back to XP Pro and now ? There is another - Windows 7 ?!? Let Gates Count his Money and laugh all the way to the bank. I think it time for a Mac or Linux. Somebody somewhere has to make a better and reliable Operating System.
Can you repost the link. I need to get the SndVol32.exe file.
Still no solution to the absence of file named SNDVOL32.exe. I am going to remove all Windows programs from my operation.
thank you. you are a star.file in your skydrive helped a lot......
Are you seeing something like this: Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the Volume Control program has not been installed. To install it use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Or this: Windows cannot execute SndVol32.exe, use Add/Remove Programs control panel to install. These other replies are not going to help you if you have no genuine XP installation CD and even if you did, they are only partially correct. If the file is missing, it did not go missing by itself. It was probably quarantined (effectively deleted) by your unspecified antivirus/antimalware program that considered the file a threat. This missing sndvol32.exe file is a common issue and easily resolved. Unfortunately we know nothing about your system so here are my copy/paste directions that seem to work for most folks: I uploaded a copy of the XP Pro SP3 file you need to my SkyDrive (everybody has a SkyDrive for sharing files). You can download it and when you do, put a copy of the file
I would not mess with or put anything in the Prefetch folder - it takes care of itself. You should copy the sndvol32.exe file in the two folders indicated: c:\windows\system32 c:\windows\system32\dllcache (that is where XP keeps backup copies of important files). Respond in the affirmative if asked to overwrite existing files. If your sndvol32.exe keeps disappearing, it is probably due to malicious software or your antivirus/antimalware application deleting the file thinking it is a threat. If that is happening, whatever you are currently using for AV protection is afflicted or defective. Describe your current antivirus and anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc. No matter what else you are using for AV protection, I would do this ASAP: Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs: Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/ SUPERAnti
I copied the file named SndVol32.exe and it now is in the Prefetch folder in Windows. How do I put it in those two files you recommended? It appears to have an additional identification like PR which probably tags it as being in the Prefetch folder. I have discovered (yesterday) that I have the wrong version of net.Framework - it is version 1.0 and I need 2.0. I don't know why Microsoft can't update my PC with that later version. I get updates all the time, so why is it so difficult to get this kind of a problem solved. I have lost the SndVol32.exe file two times before and have never been able to put it back into the proper folder. This issue began four years ago. I believe there is so much hacking of my Website that Hackers have literally wrecked my PC. I am 92 years old and I cannot buy new PCs everytime things like this happen. Thanks for your efforts to help me! 73, Charley
April 16 My sndvol32.exe file is active In my control panel and active and it is in my Task bar but it works intermittantly with system Sounds (Shut off and Startup), But it never Plays (no sounds ) on my Windows Media Player 11. I re downloaded Windows Media Player no help. I did the expand command with my Windows CD - e:\ cd i386> expand sndvol32.exe_ c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe Then it displays : 145 % increase, but still does Not make a sound. The response from Brian covered everything I was curious about. Thank you for your help. Answer Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] replied on MVP Community Moderator Community Star The string "/lang=en_RG" is called a command line switch and its purpose it to alter the behavior of the executable when it runs. The text of the switch implies that it's choosing a form of English for the language the program will use. but I wasn't able to find what country "RG" references. This particular switch shows up on a command line for a Citibank application that generates virtual account numbers, but any program that wants a language specification might use it. It's an application-dependent switch.

Microsoft Safety Scanner http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx Note: When you perform online virus scan you will lose some data that is affected by virus. .EXE files
My .EXE files are not in the Office14 file under Program Files. I would think that uninstalling and re-downloading to install correctly would fix, but I'm worried about the Product License Key being valid. Is this a viable fix, or is there a better way?
In addition to the reply form Nayana switch to the MSI based edition if you use the Click-to-Run version: http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/excel-help/click-to-run-switch-to-using-a-full-office-edition-HA101850538.aspx
Is Office 2010 working properly? Is Windows 64 bit or 32 bit? If 64 bit then check the .exe files under Programs Files(x86). Regarding the license you do not lose by uninstalling and reinstalling.

Hi I can not open or download exe files [Moved from: OneDrive / Working with files and folders on OneDrive / Sharing files and folders / OneDrive in Windows 10]
Hi John, This issue can be caused by conflicts with Windows registry and corrupted user profile. For us to better assist you, please answer the following questions: Did you receive any error messages when you open the .exe file? Have you made any software changes on your device prior to the issue? In the meantime, try disabling your antivirus software or program temporarily and see if the issue will persist. Note : Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks. Update us with the outcome so we can provide further assistance.

iDrive is very different from OneDrive and DropBox. Although they operate in the same space, iDrive is more of a backup system and OneDrive and DropBox are move into file sharing.
HI tfrichtel, if you are using IDrive and are happy with it then you should continue using it. With regards to a better app, they are all fairly similar in their operation . . . The most popular is OneDrive and DropBox. OneDrive is built into Windows 10, so if you are using IDrive, I would suggest turning off OneDrive, there is no point in running both. My preference is DropBox, but that is a personal choice . . .
Hi tfrichtel, The process known as IDrive belongs to software IDrive Version by Pro Softnet (www.pro-softnet.com/atau www.idrive.com) Honestly I would uninstall this software, if I were you . . .
Thank you for responding. Yes, I'm using Idrive to backup my system via the cloud. Is there a better backup system that you recommend that performs better?

exe folder
While trying to open up my PMB folder (Sony) I got a message saying the PMBbrowser exe file has been changed or moved, do I want to delete the shortcut? I cannot find this file anywhere. I have downloaded all of my videos into this file. This has happened to many of the files on my computer. I get the same message when I double click them. Not sure of what to do???
Does the problem only affect video files, or does it also affect other types of files or program icons?
I get that message with other files/program icons.
Alright. What has likely happened is a mis-association of the file types (what program gets used to open certain types of files). One quick way to restore this is to replace the associations with a recent registry backup. Try this out. Press +R to show the Run box, type RSTRUI and click OK. Choose a date when the computer was working correctly, and click Next to restore the system files from that date. Check to see if the problem is fixed. If not, you can go back to step 1 to either undo the restore, or try another date. System Restore doesn’t change your personal files. It only takes a couple minutes, and you can undo the process or try another date if it doesn't fix the problem on the first try. When you aren't sure where to go, this is by far the safest, fastest, and easiest option to try first.

winhelp32.exe
I have some programs that have their own help files that need Winhelp32.exe in order to display the help information. Previous to this upgrade to windows 10, the program functioned well on any version - until now. What is Microsoft doing to make winhelp32.exe compatible with Windows 10, and when will I get an answer since this is my third time asking.
Hi, Thank you for contacting Microsoft community. Sorry to inform you that this feature is not there in Windows 10, I request you to provide us feedback using the feedback app, so that our team will look into this issue. Hope this information was helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.
Actually, there is a very good work around available. The solution to this problem has been posted on the first page of the following link: WINHLP32 - Do we have to go through this again?

I set a default program to launch an .exe but now it has changed all the launchers for all the exe files so they all open using a specific program. how do i restore the original settings?
You could use System Restore (rstrui.exe) to undo whatever you did. You will not lose any data.

Hi, That probably is due to a malware attack? Possibly one of the AV.exe varierties. Just in case there are any lingering pieces of the malware here is the complete removal method. .exe issue fix in the next message. Try Safe Mode with networking - repeatedly tap F8 as you boot up. Hope this helps. Rob Brown - MS MVP - Windows Desktop Experience : Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.

Hi, Use above message to do an intense and thorough check for malware. To restore the ability to run .exe programs. 1. Make a Restore Point so you can revert back if needed though not likely required. Hope this helps. Rob Brown - MS MVP - Windows Desktop Experience : Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.
restore exe
i no longer can run any exe file extensions... when i go to launch it doesnt recognize nor allow me to associate a file type... how do i restore so i can run a virusscan
It sounds like your Windows file associations have come undone. This means that XP no longer knows what to do with files by looking at the file extension (like .exe for executables, .doc for MS documents, etc.). If you did not do it yourself, something did it for you - most likely malicious software. Go to this WWW site by Doug Knox: http://www.dougknox.com/ On the left, click the Win XP Fixes, File Association Fixes, and read the directions at the top of the page. Download the EXE File Association Fix to your desktop, unzip the file and apply it using the instructions from the top of the page, then reboot. Run the following scans for malicious software and then fix any remaining issues: Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs: Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/ SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/ They can be uninstalled later if desired. It is malware. Open Task Manager and kill the process then delete the exe. If that does not work, boot to safe mode and then delete the exe. If that does not work, get Malwarebytes Antimalware free, which is an excellent standalone scanner to compliment MSE, get it here. http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free In the More Tools section there is a program called File Assasin which should do the job. Windows10Upgrade9252.exe
If you use the Windows10Upgrade9252.exe file will you need to reinstall all programs?
Yes, it will, its simply a lite installer that starts the upgrade right away. I just installed it and i don't see anything different except the desktop background being changed. Some default programs bundled with the upgrade are also installed. The computer was already running well, so, no real improvement. But it's nice having a free Windows update. Thank you Microsoft.
Thanks Andre.

Why do two instances of regser32.exe keep running on my Windows 10 computer using a lot of cpu capability? Further, every day I get notified of regser32.exe application errors. dmg convrted into exe?
dmg convrted into exe?
Hi DMG stands for d isk i m a g e, and is a format commonly used to distribute files and applications among Apple computers. A DMG file is like a virtual DVD or hard drive. A DMG is a compressed disk image. On Macs it is like a container for programs to install by opening the DMG and dragging the contents to the Applications folder. You cannot convert it into a windows executable, because it's not an executable file to begin with, and then it's completely different code that will not work on windows. There are ways to open a DMG package on windows, but it's ultimately pointless because on a windows machine, you will not be able to use the contents. Only some data files (images, text, etc) would be usable in Windows. You will not be able to install or run Mac applications or change anything to an exe file. Thank you and Regards. HL2.exe
I'm tired of all the problems I have with vista. This time, I bought the Orange Box and installed on my desktop which runs windows vista business. When I ran Portal, an error message popped up and said "HL2.exe has stopped working". Why and how do I fix it?
I am having this same issue. I've made sure all other patches have been applied yet SP2 does not show up as a new update. I've checked to make sure that it was not hidden as well. Running Windows Vista Home Premium 32Bit with SP1. I've run the update readiness tool, and cleaned my reg. I've emptied all temp folders, disabled or removed all spyware (after running complete tests) and still no go... Help?
Hi D. Hoffman, I've done a little research on this issue, and have found many various responses and ideas for fixes, many of them point at some other program or driver interfering. So I think the best method to try first would be a clean boot. This will allow us to start Windows with a minimum amount of drivers and programs, and then seeing if the problem reoccurs. We can then from that point toy around with it and add and take away drivers in a "process of elimination" type of fashion, until we can hopefully pinpoint something specific that is causing the issue. I've listed the steps below to do this: First Step: Perform a Clean Boot 1. Log on to your computer with an administrative Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

You need a proper Vista DVD to fix problems that System File Checker finds.. That is a problem with the Computer Manufacturers not including a proper Vista DVD with your purchase from them. There is nothing that Microsoft can do about that. The Computer Manufacturers only have to supply you with a means to reinstall Vista, which they do by supplying a Recovery Partition. Cheers. MSQRY32.exe
I have a user who goes to create an ODBC query through Excel. He's on Windows 10 Pro with Office 365, 64bit, up-to-date. Microsoft Query opens but then freezes. Going directly to MSQRY32.exe also opens and freezes. He is able to open older it when he works on an older query, but anything new just freezes. Did an Online Repair, but that didn't help. Would appreciate a solution.
Hi Da Paladin, Thanks for your updates. To move forward, could you provide and confirm the following? 1. Could you let us know the outcome of the same test you did on other users’ computers? 2. Confirm whether the issue happens in one specific newly created query. 3. Navigate to File>Account in Excel 2016 and capture a screenshot of the page for us. Given the situation, I suggest you run Excel 2016 in safe mode via the steps in the article to check the result. Thanks, Cliff
1. Correct. I used his username and password with the same ODBC settings and it worked on my machine. Just to eliminate it being his user for some reason. 2. I am on Version 1705, so I am not using the same version. Most other users are on his version, 1701, and their MSQRY work.
An Online Repair has been run, it did not help.
Hi Da Paladin, Please let us know your updates at your convenience if you need further help. Thanks, Cliff
Hi Da Paladin, Thanks for your updates. Please confirm the following. 1. About “ I did try using his ODBC user from my computer and it worked fine .”, do you mean that you select the ODBC connection for the ERP system and do the same reproducing steps on your computer? 2. What’s the version of Excel 2016 are you using? Do you use the same version of Excel 2016 as the affected user? To investigate whether the issue is related to the data source, I suggest you use another data source to do a test to see the outcome. Thanks, Cliff
1. Not sure what you mean by this. I did try using his ODBC user from my computer and it worked fine 2. Its any time he tries to open a new query 3. 4. Ran it in Safe Mode and it still did not work. He also sent me what MSQYR looks like when he tries to connect -
Hi Da Paladin, Thanks for your updates. From your description, I know that the issue only happens on his computer. Given the situation, I suggest you let him run Online Repair via the steps in the article to see the outcome. Thanks, Cliff
1. I didn't get a video, but I will see if I can capture something later. What happens is that you click on Data>Get Data>From Other Sources>From Microsoft Query>it then asks for which data source, we select the ODBC we setup>MSQRY loads but there is no data populated and when you click on it the window goes gray. You have to use Task Manager to end the process to get it to close. I have done two things since. I removed the ODBC connection for our ERP system and was able to open MSQRY without a problem, obviously without any data, but it seemed happy. Re-adding the connections made it freeze again. I then reinstalled our ERP software. Unfortunately the problem still exists. I suspect something is going on with the ODBC connection. The connection is setup the same as on several other users' computers, also with Windows 10 and Office 365, 64bit. 2. Yes, the user has been able to open older queries and makes changes to them, but any attempts at a new one or just opening MSQRY causes it to
Hi Da Paladin, To clarify the issue, I’d like you to confirm and provide the following. 1. To troubleshoot the issue, could you send us a video describing the reproducing steps of it? You can provide the video via https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/privatemessages/list . 2. About “ but anything new just freezes ”, does the issue only happen in the newly created queries? 3. It is also appreciated that you can do a test with the same reproducing steps on another computer and let us know the outcome. 4. Provide us with a full screenshot of the page showing the version information of the Excel client. You can access the page via File>Account. Thanks, Cliff
Hi Da Paladin, Thanks for your updates. Please confirm the following next. 1. Do other users use Excel 2016 of the version 1701 to take the same reproducing steps as the affected user without issues? 2. If the user changes a data source, what’s the outcome? Now to clarify whether there are some software on the affected user’s computer causing the issue, I’d like you to follow the steps in the article to perform the clean boot to see and let us know the outcome. Thanks, Cliff

DLLHOST32.exe
How do I remove DLLHOST32.exe from WIN 10? ***Post moved by the moderator to the appropriate forum category.***

Jsssssssss, you are correct, I contacted a fraudulent "Norton". I checked with Norton today and they had no record of my telephone call. I googled for Norton's telephone number, then I apparently chose a link that just looked like the official Norton, but it was not Norton. I'm embarrassed to have to say I was scammed. Deleting the Kaspersky program seems to have resolved the DNSUnlocker problem. I'll now run the scans as outlined in the link you provided. Thank you for mentioning the scam possibility. Hopefully, I'll be more alert in the future.

Jsssssssss, thanks for the link. I printed it out. I checked the Task Manager, but didn't find any dllhost.exe *32, just dllhost.exe com surrogate. Another reply asked for the background, but I don't know where that reply is now because the post has been moved. Background: My initial problem was unwanted popup ads connected to DNSUnlocker. I contacted my security provider Kaspersky and they worked with me by having me submit many reports and do scans, etc. They were not able to correct the problem. My security was up for renewal so I switched to Norton. After Norton was installed a few days ago, I began receiving the Internet Explorer not working, close the program message. I called Norton and the tech identified the dllhost32.exe problem and showed me several entries on my computer. They wanted $399.00 to fix that problem with a hacking removal program from Microsoft and another security program from Microsoft. Per the link you sent, now I can't find the dllhost32.exe on my
Don't be embarrassed. It could have happened to anybody. You're welcome, bvalley. Glad to have helped a bit. Wishing you a good and save 2017 :)
Yes Jsssssssss, thanks for your suggestions and comments. The real Norton ran Power Eraser, but I'll follow some of your other suggestions as well. I really appreciate your help. So nice to have you there. It's a great service. Thanks again.
That sounds all very confusing and the switching to another AV provider while your computer showed signs of a malware infection certainly didn't help things, I think. The Norton tech whom you called and who wants that much money from you, sounds to me suspicious. Are you sure that he was an official Norton tech and not some kind of scammer? Did he have remote access to your computer? Did you run scans with the tools which are mentioned in the malwaretips.com guide? There are so many possibly problematic points mentioned by you, that I think it would be best if you ask for free expert help at bleepingcomputer.com. It might be necessary to reset your computer, your router, your passwords etc etc etc.... Often when I am on the Internet the I will get a message that "dw20.exe" published by Microsoft Corp. want to open a program outside of protected mode. What is this program and should I allow it? I always say "no" because I don't know what it is, and then my Internet stops working.
Rundll32.exe
I am getting the error message cannot find C:\Windows\Rundll32.exe The online suppot has a fix which tells me to "put the Windows XP CD ROM disk in the CD ROM drive" Then Start & RUN. However I do not have CD as my computer came preloaded with Windows XP home. How do I fix without a CD??????
Right click on Start > Search. Type rundll32.exe in the field for files to be searched for. Choose to search your primary drive (usually C). Enable Search Hidden Files and Folder from Advanced Features. Click on Search button to begin the search. In the list of results, locate the rundll32 file associated with C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386. Right click on rundll32 to the left of the aformentioned directory and choose "Open folder location". The rundll32.exe file should be hightlighted when the folder opens. Right click on the file and choose copy. Next, in the search results list, right click on rundll32 that corresponds to C\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe and choose "Open folder location". Again the file should be highlighted. Right click on the file and choose delete. Right click again in a free space within the folder and choose paste. If this does not solve your problem you may need to get a windows os disk and extract the file from there. Sometimes deciding which battle to fight
C:\Windows\rundll32.exe should not exist - rundll32.exe should be in c:\windows\system32. If you are getting the message when the computer boots, use e.g. Autoruns to locate and disable the autostart entry for the item referencing c:\windows\rundll32.exe. Consider scanning your computer for malware with e.g. MalwareBytes AntiMalware.
EXE files
Hi guys I'm trying to open up an APK and EXE files on my HTC HD7 but get the error message the phone does not support them. How can I get round this? Thanks in advance!
There is no way around it. You can only run applications on your phone that are designed to run on windows mobile devices. Generally, you download an executable windows mobile installation file to your computer, select it and an installation wizard will open up and prompt you through the installation of the application on your windows mobile phone or you can download a .CAB directly to your phone, tap it and then the file will open up an install the application to your phone. You hardly ever just copy .exe files to a windows mobile phone. Prof Julie | Microsoft MVP Windows Phone | pocketprimer.com | twitter Just got a new windows phone? Do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/ . Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. .exe support?
If the windows phone like Nokia Lumia Icon has a 16bit proccessor, then why can't it run .exe programs that ran on computers that had 16 bit cpu processors. They both have 16 bit, and .exe files run on C and I heard that the windows phone runs on C. I don't know why then there isno support for .exe files. I thought when celphones like the windos phoone were going to have 16 bit processors that they would add support for 16bit programs.
There's a lot more to running apps than matching bitness of processors. First off, the processors in our cell phones out 16-bit, they're 32-bit. Windows Phone doesn't run MS-DOS. Cell phones don't even have the same kind of processor. The apps you, for whatever reason, want to run, are designed for MS-DOS on Intel x86 CPUs. Phones use an ARM CPU. You can't just run apps not designed for your processor.
rundll32.exe
i have lost my windows xp cd and i need to reinstall rundll32.exe. what can i do?
You probably do not need to reinstall rundll32.exe. However, since you didn't give any indication of why you think you need to do this I can't give you specific help. Are you getting an error message at Startup? Or can't you run any programs because you get an error involving this file? If the latter: 1. Run Doug Knox's .exe fix from here: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm 2. Then thoroughly scan your computer for malware because it is infected. Do not skip the preparatory steps. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html# Removing_Malware If you need more help, post back with the results of those two troubleshooting steps and more details about your computer and any error messages. .exe files
Hello, I have an .exe file of a game I copied over from another computer via e-mail and I cannot open it. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Russell, You'll have to ask your friend if there was any accompanying files in the same folder as that Solitaire game, and have it sent over to you in a .ZIP file. If it still doesn't work, the game probably has things committed to the registry on Windows that it needs for it to work properly, and you would have to install the game fully through an installer. Best of luck.
It's just a solitaire card game. It's an .exe file only I copied over.
Oh, I see. This file came from a PC with Windows 7. The game came preinstalled on that when purchased new. I assume it is a freebie from Microsoft. I hope I don't get blacklisted on the forum for asking such lame questions. I am sure to buy the book "Computers for Dummies" the very next time I'm in town! Thanks for the quick lesson Dave M121 and to Ethan B. and Brian Tillman for your input as well. Russell
Yes there is other files in the same location and named the same but with varying extensions. I'll bring them all over and give that a try. Thanks very much for your help. Russell
Hi Russell, it is unlikely that game will work on your PC. When a game or app is installed on a PC it installs files into many different folders and adds registry entries to the Windows Registry. Ask you friend for the installer he used to install that game and install the game from that . . .
I know nothing of computer files as you can see. Thanks for the response, Russell
It is highly unusual for any game to work if you merely copy the files. Typically, programs must be installed.
Hi Russell, What game is it? Typically, games are supposed to come with the EXE file, accompanying DLLs, textures, sounds, as well as other various files.
.exe problems
bought my daughter an HP/win7 laptop 2 months ago. she did not activate anti virus etc. so it gets the win 7 home security virus/bug. got that out and now have problems running anything that needs .exe to run like system file checker etc. any help on what to do?
I would do this: Back up all her data files. Perform a destructive Factory Restore. Restore her data files. Remove whatever virus scanner she has. Install Microsoft Security Essentials: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/msestart/thread/8ad00d69-c5ca-4a5e-a1e8-aa7cf2bf86f7. It is free.
will give that a try, thank you!
Rundll32.exe
Using Windows XP Home, when I try to open any Control Panels I get a black window open momentarly, it is only open for a second or less. It has taken me numerous attempts to get the window title: C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe there is something in the body of the window but it closes too quickly to read. Can anyone help, I have had a virus in the last couple of months which I managed to repair. Thanks Brian.
Rundll32 is simply a program that runs a .dll file that is fed to it. You don't have much to go on. Try examining the System and Application Event Logs and see if any errors are recorded there: Start -> Run -> "eventvwr.msc" HTH, JW

Rundl32.exe
My Webroot program alerts me that a rundl32.exe program is trying to make changes to my host file. should I allow this changes? Also when I click on a link I get re-directed to a completely different site and I have to go back and click on the link I want 3-4 times until I get in to the site I want. It does not happen all the time but often to bugg me. Thx
The "hosts" file is located in the following path: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts You can open it with any text editor or Notepad. Under almost all circumstances, it should contain only one line that does not begin with a "#" character and that line should be: 127.0.0.1 localhost Malware often uses the "hosts" file to redirect to different sites -- so if you think you are going to your bank's website, you might instead be going to some other site and typing in your account login and passwords. In general, do not allow changes to your hosts file. The very fact that something tried to change it is indicative that you have some kind of malware on your machine. Download a program such as " Malwarebytes " and do a thorough scan of your machine. HTH, JW
rundll32.exe
My computer suffers from the old 'cannot find rundll32.exe' problem. The most common solution I'm getting is "full system restore". So I get my windows XP installation disk, boot it up and the menu appears. However, when I click on the top option, to install XP, nothing happens. The result is the same with most of the buttons except 'browse files on this CD'. How can I work around this problem?
Hi! I tried this, and it worked....mostly. My 'Control Panel' functions still come up with an error message. But I can launch .exe files without issue now, so thank you :D If you know how to fix the problem above, I'd greatly appreciate it. - Jimmy Please click on the link below and run FixExe.reg. Post your results. FixExe.reg Also, what error message are you receiving when open Control Panel functions? Regards, Joel Free computer support and diagnostics -->> http://repairbotsonline.forumotion.com/
Let me translate the solution of Full System Restore for you: "I have no idea what is going on with your computer or how to fix it, so try this and maybe it will work." The c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe file is one of 3498 Windows Protected Files. so it is unlikely to be missing. That means that if your Windows File Protection is working, it is almost impossible for that file (or any of the 3497 others) to really be missing. The file is more likely to be infected or has been replaced by some version of a file with the same name from malicious software. You could just replace rundll32.exe it with one of the many other good copies already on your HDD and that may relieve your symptom, but not fix the problem - your computer would still be infected. I would not recommend trying to work around the problem, I would recommend fixing the problem (not fix the symptom of the problem). Is your system functional enough to get on the Internet or not? If yes, do this: Perform some scans for m

When you said you were seeing the option to browse the files on the cd I immediately knew you were not booting from the disc. This option does not appear when you boot from the disc. It only displays when you insert the disc after windows is loaded. When booting from the disc, place the disc in the disc drive then restart the computer. A screen should then appear instructing you to press any key to boot from a cd. At that point, press any key. Follow the prompts from there. If you are not receiving the screen to press any key then it is likely the boot sequence in system bios is not set properly. It should be set to boot from the cd rom first and the hdd second. However, rundll32 errors do not occur for no reason. It is my experience the most common cause is an infection. I recommend you ask this question on the free computer support forum below where you will be guided through a series of procedures to determine if in fact you are infected. .exe files on nokia 5233
would my nokia 5233 support .exe files
ankushahuja wrote: would my nokia 5233 support .exe files No, .jar or .sis
Note, though, that inside the .sis/.sisx files (which is just an installation package/archive file format), the Symbian executables have a .exe extension, too (as of Symbian OS v9 and onwards). However, the Symbian .exe files are not the same as, e.g., Windows .exe files; Symbian doesn't run Windows apps, and Windows doesn't run Symbian apps. Note also, that older .sis files intended for earlier Symbian versions (e.g., S60 2nd Edition, Series 80, or UIQ), also won't run on the 5233, even if they are also .sis files (i.e., what's inside the .sis files matters, too, not just the file name extension).

Thanks for the advice. I hsd an idea it was conflict, but ot being very good on this subject, your informed insight has semed to resolve this. I have always had problems with microsoft , and windows . so prefer to use other recommended systems.
Glad my reply helped you! :-) Prashant Kumar
thanks removing MSE. did the trick.,
About your problem, I have seen this kind of case earlier when a user had both Microsoft Security Essentials and Avast installed and working concurrently. This is not recommended and a PC must not have two or more antiviruses installed. The file-in-question is related to signature updates of Microsoft Security Essentials(MSE)/Windows Defender(WD) and is completely harmless and legit. I think the program that is 'attracting or calling this up' is either MSE or WD. If you have MSE installed then you should prefer removing either avast or MSE, your choice. But if Windows Defender is running then you should stop it since Windows Defender is only an antispyware program and cannot provide full security. Windows Defender, by default, disables itself when another antivirus is installed. If it is running then chances your avast is not working properly and you should check that also. Hope this helps! Prashant Kumar
It seems that there is other security software installed on your system. Kindly check and remove if there are more than one security software installed on your computer. "am_delta_patch" is an update file for MSE. So follow the below mentioned steps to either remove MSE or Avast completely from your system: Remove application using Revo uninstaller: Revo uninstaller would help to remove the application completely including the registry entries. 1. First, download and install Revo uninstaller (Revo Uninstaller). It opens with all the available programs on your computer. 2. Now double click on any program you want to remove. Suppose if you want to uninstall Yahoo messenger application from my computer. Double click Yahoo Messenger application to remove it. 3. It will ask you to uninstall the program. Click on Yes button. 4. Now select an uninstall mode. There are various modes you can choose from. The best mode is the Advanced mode which removes all the traces of the program

After the win 10 latest upgrade I lost many APPS and programs , I reloaded Office 2007 and now I need winword.exe to get 07 office operable again
Hi JoeyC978, if you reloaded Office 2007, that would have included winword.exe Can you please provide a screenshot of the error dialog you are seeing . . .
Thanks for your input , I am well over retirement age and do not need MS office except for one program that I developed years ago ….defiantly not worth $7.00 a month , all I need in WINWORD.EXE for the program to work , again thank you
That's the executable for Microsoft Word. If you don't already have Word, the best and least expensive way to get it is by subscribing to Microsoft Office. Just 7 bucks a month and you get Word and all the other Office programs, and they will always be the latest versions. And Microsoft throws in a terabyte of space in OneDrive. It's the best deal going.
Office 2007 is not certified compatible with Windows 10, so this might be a factor. Try browsing to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office You should find winword in that folder. I would try uninstalling Office 2007 again and make sure the Microsoft Office folder in Program Files is deleted. Restart then reload Office 2007 but this time try doing so using compatibility mode: Run Old Software on Windows 10 with Compatibility Mode - groovyPost https://www.groovypost.com/howto/run-old-softwa...

Hello alipourahmadi, We'd like to know which antivirus software you are using. If you think that the program is safe and likely a false positive, you will need to add an exclusion depending on the current antivirus you're using. If you're using Windows Defender, please refer to this support article on how to add an exclusion to Windows Defender Antivirus. If you would like me to provide additional advice, simply respond to this thread. I will get notified and I’ll reply to you as soon as I can.
Hello, I am sorry that you are having some trouble installing an .exe software. There is a large possibility that Windows Defender may be preventing the install. Go into the Defender settings and Disable all. Also, disable the Realtime Protection to run this program. Remember to turn it back on after the install! Hope this helps!

Other Memory Hogs You probably have many useless programs starting automatically. You can disable these programs. Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - Run and type msconfig Then go to the Startup tab. Untick things you don't need. Use the command line column to find info on the file, if it's not showing use View menu - Select Columns. Use the containing folder name and also find the file and right click - Properties - Details tab to see what it is.

Hi Lee Mcc, Most of the malware issues now are disabling executable files. You will have to run a File Association Fix. 1. Download File Association Fix from here: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/xp_exe_fix.zip . 2. Save it in your desktop. 3. Double-click to run it. 4. This sounds like a fake antivirus program. The whole point is that a virus wouldn't announce its presence, it would try to avoid detection. Is it telling you to PAY someone to use this program? If so, DON'T. Instead, lookup its characteristics in Google to see what needs to be done to get rid of it. Malwarebytes' free scanner is quite good at removing these fake products, though you may need to run it in safe mode. If that doesn't succeed then the best approach is to boot from a 'Live CD' such as UBCDWin and run a malware-scan that way. To follow the latter approach you will need to beg or borrow a clean computer to build the bootable CD with. http://www.ubcd4win.com/ http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
